Thinking of Making the Switch

New to the board.

I have been a long time Baseball Mogul fan who is contemplating making the switch to OOTP.

I grew disillusioned with Mogul as it just seems to release with glitches. How reliable is OOTP out of the gate?

Hey RickD. I remember you from the Mogul boards but it's been a while since I've been over there. There will always be glitches with computer software. It can't be helped I'm afraid. One of the differences between Mogul and OOTP IMHO is that Markus gets on things right away when bugs are reported. I think one of the problems for Mogul is that Clay is on his own and kind of gets swamped. Markus has a very small team, but at least he's not all by himself like he once was. Clay's a nice guy, and Mogul's a decent game, but nowhere near as deep as OOTP. OOTP has a steep learning curve because of said depth though. You've been warned. It also has a very active board of people who can help if you get stuck, so you shouldn't be stuck for too long. Welcome to the OOTP forums.

Oh yeah I remember you.

I just got frustrated with BM games being released with so many glitches you could not play out of the box. Patches were slower and slower in coming. For the price it just is no longer worth it.

I know all tech has glitches but I assume that OOTP is worth the price by all I see. I am ok with a learning curve.

My suggestion to you is to route around in the New to the Game? section and the Historical Simulations section of the boards. You'll find people there that are going through the learning curve and people stop by to help them out, so you can get tips if you get stuck. Of course if you get stuck, you can do an Advanced Search (via the Search tool at the top of the page) to see if what's confusing you has confused others before (highly likely). There are a lot of settings for this game, and it takes a while to sort it all out, but you can do it.

Also there are awesome modifications for the game in the OOTP Mods section. Everything you can imagine. One of my favourites the Historical FaceGen collection which attempts to put a face to every one of the 18,918 players that have played MLB throughout it's history. There are some that don't have one, so they put a generic face on those guys. It is unbelievable what people have come up with. It's a very immersive/addictive game. You can also do just about anything with fictional games. I'm no expert on that. Random debut historicals is my niche.

check out old changelogs. should notice a difference based on how you describe your experience with another similar game.

i can attest that modern and custom leagues play as intended.

the few things 'i just don't like,' or maybe even more objectively wonky, are small potatoes to the big picture. like you said, nothing is perfect. This is a reasonably solid and robust video game that has a clear dedication to resolving problems.

also relative to ootp, not some company the size of EA. i'm sure some small stuff might get somethign akin to duct tape rather than a proper fix until time allows and if important. (not that it can't happen with the budget the size of an ea g ame)

Do it. I made the jump around OOTPX. Mogul was my introduction to this world. But nothing can beat the depth that OOTP. Dont like the depth thats OK. OOTP has ways to simplify that work too. Not to mention the huge community.

No comparison ---- I have played both, OOTP is a MUCH MUCH better game. They don't even come close!

I have played both and OOTP is 2nd to none and above it all stratosphere high above. Mongul is too simple of a game while OOTP allows for the creativity of the player on so many levels and like myself been playing this game since 2001 and many who play sometimes get very addicted and in some way develop favorite players as we watch the player mature and rise to become HOF if we get lucky with one and who knows number retired.
