NCAA Football Thoughts - week 13
This will be short because I've been on vacation this week. I've got a flight later so I won't have much time. In fact, I hardly watch any football Sunday, so no NFL thoughts this week.........
........FIrst, Bama over Ohio St. Again, this isn't about who was actually better, or who would beat who. This, to me, will always be about who earned it more. Bama, in all fairness, had a lesser resume than the Buckeyes & it wasn't their fault. They couldn't help that the SEC isn't as good as it's rep. They can't help FSU, Miss St & LSU didn't do their part in pumping up the Tide's qualifications. Nevertheless, what the Tide did wasn't even close to what OSU did. OSU beat 3 teams ranked better than Bama's best win. And that "best win" had a loss at home to Troy St. OSU's loss to #2 Oklahoma was better than the Tide's loss to #7 Auburn. OSU won their conference. Bama finished 3rd. How can they earn the 3rd place ribbon in their own backyard and be the 4th best in the entire country? Bama maybe better than Ohio St. But they didn't earn the spot more than Ohio St........ .......Meanwhile UCF still isn't in the top 10. Did you know the rankings have Memphis over Miss St? UCF gave them their only 2 L's. Yet that means nothing. But Bama beating MSU somehow means something. The Tide's schedule wasn't that much better than UCF's. But going unbeaten doesn't even merit a top 10 slot. .......This is why I state that NCAA football has never had a champion. They've had a popular vote, that's it. Deciding #1 in college football is more like Dancing with the Stars than it is like normal team sports.........

I will take the ironic position that I would say Bama is probably the better choice for the playoff. I'm not sure who has the better resume. Ohio State has better wins but worse losses. I think the committee wasn't ready to set the precedent of two losses as acceptable yet.
Personally, I didn't want to see Clemson wax us 31-0 for a second year in a row, so I'm just as happy to avoid the CFP. Not mention the optics of getting selected two years in a row for the exact opposite reasons. Even I can't defend that. UCF got rewarded for their great season by losing their coach. I suspect that means they will also get waxed in the bowl game, but bowl games aren't very indicative of a team's ability anyway. |

Your reasoning is the same as my bro's on OSU. Which makes me not like you. We've been going back & forth on that all weekend. I personally wanted neither Bama or OSU in it. So I wish Wisky was better. I'm tired of the blue bloods always getting the benefit of the doubt while the others have to work twice as hard to get half as much. I just find it perplexing that Power 5 schools argue the UCF's can't compete in better conferences, yet they raid the "other 5" when they fire their coaches who couldn't compete in the better conferences. How's that work?

![]() Yeah, I'd like to see some new teams in the mix too. I agree, it seems like it is Clemson, Bama, and OSU by default every year. It is great to see Georgia relevant this year. I'm hoping they can finish the deal. |

When Wash St plays Arizona St next year, I want all programming to be interrupted for the pre-game, mid-week interview. Mike Leach with Herm Edwards. Just let em go.
