Ohtani "commentary"

I am just stunned at how this kid (23 freakin' years old) has the baseball world and, of all things, America's Major League Baseball under his control, at his fingertips and making them fall all over themselves!
Anyone remember the Warner Brothers cartoon where there is a chihuahua and a bulldog and the bulldog walks around tough like and the chihuahua is jumping around in front of him going "Yeah, cause you and me are pals, ain't we, Chester?!" Right? Cause we're pals, right Chester? Huh? We're pals, ain't we? Ain't we, Chester?!"
That's what this Ohtani chase reminds me of.
Imagine yourself being only 23 and making an entire pro league write "essays" on why you should play for them! Anyone think of "A Christmas Story" right about now? "I want you to write....a theme. What I want for Christmas."
Suddenly, all 30 major league teams became Ralphie.
Must be pretty flippin' nice to sit back, put your feet up at 23 and wait for Major League Baseball to turn in their assignments!
And IF...IF...IF he doesn't live up to the hype, reputation and skill in America, the fallout will be H-U-G-E!

What's your point? Jealous maybe, or is this a "get off my lawn" thing.

Are you equally stunned every year when NFL teams require future draftees to come for interviews, tests, psychological analysis etc. etc.? Kind of cool that the athlete is the one holding all the card in this instance.

The only people who should be rightfully annoyed are young North American players and players from other countries who are forced to be part of the MLB amateur draft and have 3 years at min and 3 years of arb before they can choose their employer. It's hard to feel sympathy for pending multi millionaires but if I were a good 23 year old American ready to make a MLB roster but maybe blocked by a good incumbent, I'd be asking my union when they're going to fix the disparity caused by what country you're born in.

60 Minutes did a segment on Ohtani last summer. That was the first time I heard of him. While 15 minutes is not much time I have to say I was very impressed with the young man, I think he will be a star in MLB, and I really do hope he ends up with the Rangers. Perhaps I am all wet, but I believe a true pitcher/hitter would be good for the game.

Will OOTP create a player that you can put into a rotation to pitch 20-30 times a year and get 200-400 PA?

If you manage the team itself it can be done. I have not seen the AI do it as i have Steve Nebraska in my EBL league and he has never played the field. i have a DH in both leagues, so it doesn't matter what his offensive ratings are for now. In High Heat i had to create 2 of him.

RchW, no...I'm not coming from that angle, like an old codger. I am just saying it's amazing the power this kid possesses right now and did in the beginning.
What I wrote wasnt a slam piece. I think it's just amazing the way this kid has the MLB at a standstill.

I've yet to see any evidence he could replicate his JPPL stats in MLB. I fully expect him to be above average in batting or pitching. Just not both over several seasons. My thought is that by his 4th or in his 4th season he will be mostly one or the other.

Does he have closer stuff? As a relief pitcher he could do both longer.
