How many free agents do you have??
All this talk about unsigned FA's made me wonder...how many FA's are there usually during the regular season IRL? less than a hundred? a few hundred? thousand?
How many FAs do you currently have in your MLB-based universe (with full minors)?

I'll report back in a few weeks when i get to the regular season but as of 22 DEC 2028, there is 3222 FA for 3 ML. Full MLB, EBL with 3 levels of minors and 1 12 team ML but its basically an Indy league. i think i had 300 FA as of Sep 1st 2027.

it fluctuates each year. it may look inflated in ootp if you count all the players that would never be considered for actual use... and in real life would have retired or simply disappeared. so, apply a filter of some sort to guage it more precisely.
if your finance settings are similar, you will see similar to RL. if you set max years to ~3 or something small, it will be much different. i can say that a real player league 2017 and first few years are not quite the same as fictional or historical play. i think more of these players hit FA, but i could be wrong. it would be a crowd pleaser if trout, harper and other big names have a slight increase % of becomng available. i forget which year it was, but you could set a clock to various players being available. some were not quite clockwork but still common to see. i knew i could get harper and trout in consecutive years "most" of the time i started a league, so i planned for it and made sure i could afford them. same with various pitchers.. i know strasburg was a big name that 99% was avaialbe in year 2 or 3. while i can see deep FA fields in pure fictional play, there are also extreme weak years. the way i play, the strong years are mostly when i let 2-3 players go, lol. |

thx for the info. I was able to find on Baseball America what they consider Minor League Free Agents...572 of them currently. Pair that with the 104 ML FAs that everyone seems to be constantly talking about and 1k FA per ML universe seems 'realistic'. I somehow had 3k in my fictional ML universe. Probably because I was generating 50 rounds of players for a 40 round draft. I think I may need to cut the draft down to 30 rounds...will see. In the meantime, I retired about 1k players at the bottom of the talent pool.
