Pitching in Colorado

This will be my first go around with a Rockies franchise. Curious to hear about any success with pictures in the park? What type of pitchers work best? Ground ball ?

in theory, for sure.

more things go into hr/9 than just that, though.

for prospects withotu a mlb track record i'd stick to things like gb% and movement ratings... for a MLB vet i'd use their HR/9 with a large enough career sample and relatively consistent ratings during that window of time. (ie doesn't have to be entire career, i excluse rookie+ season all the time of developing mlb players -- it helps to retain scouting reports and not just 1/year.) RP/CL back to ratings, since they rarely amass enough innings in a window of tme that meets previous qualifications. they take more seasons due to use, and therefore more likely to change too much in that time.

stats are meaningless to add together if the underlying talent(real ratings) has changed drastically.

exactly!

strikeouts mean less balls in play...

pitchest that result in a lower babip or lower slugging is also good (compared to other pitches of simialr quality).

most of that just translates as best possible ratings across the board, but of any group of players that meet that standard (what you can afford or best of what's avaiable) you can use these finer points to pick out which is best for Colorado.

don't get the 21/80 guy because he has a 60% gb% over a 80/80 guy that's "neutral"... start with similar qualities then weed within that group for your choice. simialr to perosnality and other smaller factors relative to the whole pie.

would want a player who can through high heat but yet keeps the HRs down for I doubt you would want a staff each giving 30 to 40 HRs

Feel free to go the Earl Weaver route and invest in some great defensive ability behind your pitcher. People forget how good his Orioles teams were defensively.

My best pitcher is an Extreme Groundball pitcher with 58 Stuff/70 Movement/77 Control. He had a 4.10 ERA in 193 IP with 27 HRA in 2017 but a 2.0 BB/9 and a solid enough 6.4 K/9.

While you want low HR totals, just be prepared to accept that pitching at Coors Field means allowing a lot of home runs.

The one thing I emphasize is control above all else, where possible. I'd rather get beat allowing some base hits/HRs that get by my defense than giving away free base runners/runs via walks.

The other thing, more specific to your bullpen, is to play the matchups. If your reliever is lights out against RHP, do the obvious and plug him in rather than trying to overthink it via his "role" and mess it all up.

I always play as the Rox and love me some extreme groundballers with a lot of mustard.
