New Player Question - Development??

Hello, new player to OOTP 19 Baseball but not to Baseball Sims. I have a question about using Development. So the game that I currently want to try is a historical sim in which I start with the Expansion Seattle Mariners from 1977 and play to current times.
I want to use real MLB players and I want them to develop along a similar line as they did in real life, not much randomness. However, I do want their ratings to change a bit from year to year as players had great years and down years as they advanced in their career. Basically, I want them to develop from a rookie to a great player as they did in the real world, I do not want a stagnate #. I expect a little movement. Therefore I set the ratings to be configured from the Major League, 3 Year Window, compared to all other MLB players, and generate ratings every year.
So my question would be should I turn Development off?? Also, if I do turn it off would the game still have the players ratings change based on how they played in real life for that particular year and every year after?? I ask because the game makes it sound that if I turn off Development, nobody develops, and ratings stay put year in and year out.

Thanks for the help everyone and i look forward to contributing here. Please let me know if I am not clear on something.

I think what you want to do is set "Talent Change Randomness" to 0. I set it to 50, and it makes those sudden changes very unlikely.

having development on will add a fictional element.

is that what you want? no wrong answer here.

recalc wil cause them to 'develop' along th elines of what they did each year -- evened out based on potential peak or career average etc etc.. all those options are related. they will do as you expect.

guessing from what you explained, you don't want development on.. the recalc of ratings will do what you want over time.

if TCR isn't included in turning development off, you probably want to reduce that to 1 or 0 etc. (talent change randomness setting)

first year with the game? no better way to learn than through failure lol embrace it!

i tried too much at once.. got frustrated..came back a few months later with a real determination.. been smooth since. well, smooth-ish. first few legues never got more than a few years out before i wanted to change one more thing.. one more thing.. eventually i got it how i wanted over time. i enjoy the creation process and quite efficient at it through learning from numerous mistakes.
