I'm afraid of what this game is turning me into

I'm as meek a person as you'll ever meet. I try to see the best in people, it doesn't occur to me to willfully do any harm to anyone, I dislike horror movies and I prefer baseball management and other simulation games infinitely to violent first person shooters any day of the week. There is never a moment where I wish I could blow up another living human being's organs by force-feeding them remote-controlled grenades.

When I play RPGs like Dragon Age: Origins or pretty much anything that gives me a choice in how to act, I always pick the "good guy" option. I understand that many people like to roleplay the bad guy - personally I've never in my life felt an urge to do so. It's just not in my nature - there is no appeal to it. I want to be nice to people. I do not want to murder them with a rusty carving knife while they're asleep at all.

All of this was true, until the day that I met this... let's go with "person" for now:

I want to invent a new way of murdering people just so I can do it to him. Just the notion that his current mood is "Happy" is an affront that will rob me of sleep for the rest of the week.

Why? I suppose you've never had the pleasure of dealing with an "Interfering" personality before. Here's sodding why:

You're literally paying me to figure out what's important and what isn't, you insufferable cretin. When I need you to negotiate a two-year extension for a 38-year-old centerfielder that could fall off a cliff any second I'll consult you personally.

Before this there were $10 million open for next year's contracts, and I was already trying to deal with all the other extensions you decided to sign without consulting me. Now there's nothing - actually, that's not true. If I figure out how to free $14 million from the budget - then I get to have nothing.

It's the last straw. There's the elite reliever I gave a one-year contract to before the season began that you decided to give a two-year extension to before he threw a single pitch. Or the shortstop that you decided to give three seasons of almost $20 million to even as I was in the middle of negotiations with his much more skilled replacement.

As these situations pile up, I'm struck with the certainty that I literally cannot wait for you to die in a fire. If the game gave me the option, I would personally imprison you in a crematorium, dial it up to "extra crispy" and smile as the skin melts from your face.

Anyway, OOTP 19 is 11/10 as usual. Wouldn't change a thing!

There needs to be an in-game therapy option

For a meek person, you sure come up with some uncomfortable ways to perish

I am always on the quest, seen or unseen, to uncover the mechanisms of the mind at work in all things, including the OOTP experience. I love this post, the brilliant and slowly-peaking articulation of his eventual torment in contrast to his character, and his subtle and revealing candor. I’m a fan!

Time to trade away the farm system for losers, lock up rostered players for long contract extensions for large amounts and quit to find another job.

Let the owner figure out how to make money and win under those conditions.

I am pretty sure your team owner is a certain Dean I have taught college for in the past. And I have fantasized all the same things you mention here. I play OOTP baseball to escape from the reality of the Machiavellian world of academia !

When it comes down to it this is karma for exercising absolutely no restraint in my fictional GM careers when it comes to trading. It's never a matter of whether I can reach the playoffs, just how often I can win them. My OOTP 18 career ended up at something like 25 wins in 50 playoff appearances in 50 seasons. So I suppose OOTP 19 just picked a novel angle of attack.

I assure you, I'm not budging - I personally spawned this universe into existence and I hand-picked this franchise to be the GM of. I'll allow this so-called "Owner" to persist in his delusions, and just silently hope that whatever storylines for owner changes the game has programmed in, he gets the most humiliating one there is.

I don't suppose the developers could, as a personal favor, patch in "Owner of XXX dies in a autoerotic asphyxiation accident"? Or maybe "Owner of XXX fatally breaks neck after slipping on dog excrement"? Don't confirm or deny anything - whatever happens to him, I want it to be a surprise.

Just noticed the owners DOB.

1746 looks like a bug that should be reported in the proper Bug Forum Thread.

Not a bug - my fictional universes always start in the year 1800.

If there's anything that I might report as a bug, it's that when I created the minor leagues for my Major League equivalent in Advanced Mode, they ended up being based on 1800 settings for players/financials etc. rather than the settings for the major league they were spawned off of. I had to delete them, reenter starting year to be 2018 and re-create them to get the results I wanted.

Well, there's also the fact that 99% of my first Amateur Draft pool was made up of players from the Island nation of Tokelau. What happens is that when you pick a certain International Region (Here: INTERNATIONAL: Anglosphere), there are two settings on the Players tab, "Default Player origin" and "Amateur Draft Player origin", I believe. There is a function called "even distribution" that sets the percentage of player origins proportionally to the nations' population. If you select that for "Default Player origin", you get the desired result of roughly 60% United States, 0.01% for the various microscopic island nations and so on. If you select that function for "Amateur Draft", however, every single player (except for the standard 1% from random origin) will be from Tokelau. Perhaps more precisely, Tokelau will be set to 1% or so and it will be the only percentage set at all.

The same happens for INTERNATIONAL: Trans-Atlantic, by the way, except instead of Tokelau everybody will be from Greenland.

The other functions work as intended (I used the one that set nation percentages to how my franchises are distributed).

Another bug, or at least it looked like that to me, is a tendency for "Randomize Cities" to result in placeholder names in my minor leagues - such as my AAA affiliate being named "Brooklyn AAA" instead of a random city within the region set for the minor league. I got it to work properly by deselecting the region and instead picking a specific nation for the minor league to be from.

What trips me up about this stuff is that I'm supposed to attach league files for bugs, but which league files do I attach to bugs that occur before a league file can even be created?

January of my first season, I notice my Free Agent budget has mysteriously jumped by 15m, after I've signed all my targets. I was totally bamboozled by this, even thinking I had mixed up saves.

It turns out the owner has taken control of the scouting, development and int'l FA budgets, and slashed them all.

It's not going to get better, is it?

Were you over budget before this action? That would cause these budgets to be cut.

No, I had about 1.5m still to play with in the current year, and 15m for next year.

Mid Jan now, and he has given most of it back:
