Saved game not visible in Windows File Explorer
Yesterday I installed OOTP19 on my tablet (version 19.5.49) and converted my OOTP18 league over to OOTP 19. However, my league isn't visible in the saved_games folder in Windows File Explorer. The file path is correct, and I'm able to access the files from my league within OOTP without issue. I also have File Explorer set to "Show hidden files, folders and drives". However, from the OOTP Load Game screen, when I click the Open Folder button, I get the error message in the attached screenshot.
In all my years playing OOTP, I've never had this issue. Any ideas on how to make my league visible in File Explorer? I'm baffled. |

check security permissions/file permissions?
maybe it's not accessible for those reasons.. can happen for odd reasons if in a "system" director ylike program files. have ootp19.exe "run as administrator" too.. maybe that allows you to access it in game at least. even try moving it to a new location outside of program files... just copy contents of the data directory so it remains behind too... can worry about cleaning up redundancies after you get it working, if needed. once it's in a new location, open ootp and change location of data directory to wherever you pasted a copy. game settings - expert tab. if you copied the entire contents, it shouldn't have to 'install' data directory, but you could do that first then just copy over league... meh i forgot even your file exporer isn't functioning lol.. well leaving just in case edit checkdsk /f -- run that for error check on hdd. get a program like CrystalDiskInfo - freeware - it checks teh S.M.A.R.T. features of your storage device and will tell you if there is any lost sectors that might be causing a problem. tiny little program, 100% free, no adware or anything. (coretemp is another good little app to have if you really work your cpu hard - i can tell when to reapply the heat sync gel etc by the average temp at idle being elevated) Last edited by NoOne; 04-27-2018 at 12:21 AM. |

You check My Documents folder?
Default install location installs the save games there. |

I ran into this issue today as well. I reinstalled the game and ran as administrator and that seemed to work. I was also having problems writing reports to disk. I'm guessing it had something to do with security permissions more so than the game itself being corrupted.

Chkdsk came back fine. I checked the permissions for the saved_games folder and gave full permissions, but the saved game was still hidden.
When I installed OOTP19 on my tablet (with 19.5.49), it was the first time it had been installed on the machine. For some reason, the data folder went to my Program Files folder instead of My Documents (like every other version of OOTP) despite the fact that I selected a default installation. I thought the different location may have been something new for OOTP19, but the installation I did on my laptop back in March went to My Documents. I created a test league in OOTP 19 on my tablet, and it was similarly not visible in my saved_games folder. If I'm not alone in this regard, I'm wondering if there may be an issue with 19.5.49. I'm going to experiment a bit with OOTP19 on my laptop and try converting my league again from OOTP18. If it works normally, I'll reinstall OOTP19 on my tablet (ensuring it goes to the proper location) and move the league over. |

i install to a custom directory and replace custom_folders.ini before it starts for the first time after any patch.
it works fine for me. windows directories can be wonky -- program files, my ducoments, users\.. etc... i would suggest avoiding them, in general. make a "game" or "apps" folder off your root -- or any organized method of subfolders etc... similar but different from "program files". looks someone above said they reinstalled with administrator priveledges turned on and it fixe the problem. oh, maybe it is a licensing thing? if you installed 2 licenses already it would assuredly prevent use in some way. |

I reinstalled OOTP19 while running it as Administrator. I did the default install again, and once again it put the data folder in the Program Files directory rather than the customary location in My Documents. After the reinstall I manually created the OOTP19 folder in My Documents, and the test league I created was visible in the saved_games folder after creation. The issue seems to be resolved for now.
I'm not sure if the resolution was installing while running as Administrator or moving the data folder out of Program Files. Either way, the game put the data folder in the wrong location on my tablet. Patching my existing install on my laptop to 19.5.49 worked fine, but new 19.5.49 installs on my tablet had issues (despite OOTP16 to 18 installing fine previously). I'm going to report the potential install issue as a bug, in the event that's it's something that was introduced in 19.5.49. Thanks for all the suggestions and possible fixes. |
