Allowing expansion resets the league teams

I just completed a season with custom teams. I spent quite a long time creating a league set in 1960, anticipating the expansion. However, when the season completed my teams were all replaced by all the teams for 1961.

I have three questions around this - how do I allow expansion without the MLB teams removing all of the custom teams, is this possible?

Does the game always reset the teams at the end of the season?

Failing that, is there a way to run an expansion at the end of a season using the regular expansion rules?

If you have historical league evolution set it will change everything to historical.

You must do manual expansion to retain your fictional setup.

Will it change the teams back to the historical next season even if there is not an expansion season? How would I go season-to-season with a fictional setup if it does that?

Having "Automatically expand league" enabled resets a lot of stuff that may be undesireable. If you do even minimal modification to your league you need to turn that off. Found under Historical Tab in settings.

Thanks for the info.

I ran a historical league and turned off that setting as you suggested - no team reset.

I added the expansion and got what was expected.

It would have been nice to know that before I created the league because it takes so much time to complete, but not the first time I did something in this game only to be surprised at the outcome and have to "start over".

I learned that when I went through a great deal of effort to set up stadiums for all the teams in my league... only to have them reset to default the next season. I'm with ya... but at least you know now
