Spring Training Rotation
Why does the game always reset my 5-man rotation to use the fifth starter for the first game of Spring Training?
I have been noticing this for some time now, and when the game stopped for multiple absurd AI trade offers, I looked at my rotation and saw that this had happened again as of February 2. So I reset my rotation to go with with number one starter in the next game. I simmed ahead without incident to the first day of ST and lo and behold, the AI had reset my starter choice to the fifth man. Why? What is the logic -- or lack thereof-- here?

Perhaps to have the #1 starter pitch on opening day

Not really. My Spring Training rotation is always 6 pitchers (the 5th and 6th starters are usually battling for the final rotation spot) and I use a strict order. My #1 always starts the first game. There are enough days off between the end of Spring Training and the start of the regular season so the #1 starter is rested and ready to go.
The reality is that in Spring Training who pitches the first game, or any game, is pretty irrelevant. The starter is going to go 4 innings at the most, there are substitutions galore, and with days off before the start of the season everyone is rested anyway. The goal of Spring Training is get the guys who you know will be on the roster ready, determine which guys get the last one or two open roster spots, look at some young guys for the future, and otherwise prepare for the season. If you win the game, great. If you don't, it's not a big deal.

Obviously if you have an odd number of teams per subleague, then there are byes in ST and things start getting weird. You might have to check how many ST games you play in order to line things up right.

Do you have strict rotation selected? And not strict, occasionally highest rested?

I dislike the fact that come ST I have the AI call up a ton of people I have no interest in seeing play ST games. And then I have to boot them back to AAA.

Anyone on the 40 man initially goes to the Major League training camp, same as in real life.
