Problems with facegen?
So when I first started a fictional game a week or so back, I had been having issues getting facegen to work properly; in Windowed mode it would work fine, but when switching to Full Screen it would only generate the bottom-left corner of a player's portrait, which after doing a couple of searches I can see has been a recurring problem for some people. Only when changing the menus from dark mode to light mode would it work properly in Full Screen. It's like "alright, fair enough - I preferred dark mode but if it means actually having player faces, I'll live with it."
But now, today I started the game as usual and found that even with no settings changes on my end, suddenly the game refuses to generate new faces for players. Anyone who hadn't already had a portrait made before today now just has the generic greyed out picture; and regenerating a face or even changing the menu skin or going back to Windowed mode does not fix it. What's going on? Last edited by McJohnson88; 07-19-2020 at 12:44 PM. |

Just to note: You don't have to leave it on Dark or Light. You just need to change it once, delete the images, and then you can change it back and reload and it should be fine.
If there's nothing, it sounds like Facegen has been turned off. Check your settings to make sure it's on, and then check the in-game settings as well. (File > Options > then it's a tab). |

What happens if you delete all the files in graphics/player_pics for that save, then load it? Does it start generating full pictures again?

OK, can you upload that save, including all of the graphics subfolders? (Instructions here.) I'd like to see if it'll reproduce on another system if it's happening that consistently with yours.

A: it's not just limited to that one save file: I have two other Historic NHL games going as well, and they too were failing to generate new faces. B: I did what you were going to do already - I have another computer of similar age and specs in another room with FHM6 installed on it, and I copied the save game over to that one to see what it would do, and it generated faces just fine. C: I booted the game up today to grab screenshots to demonstrate, and found that facegen suddenly decided to start working again. I have no idea what I did (same as when it started acting up I don't think I did anything) and I have no idea what changed, but yeah; I would have to guess it's not "fixed", I assume it'll stop again at some point, but for now it is working. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Last edited by McJohnson88; 07-20-2020 at 12:48 PM. |

Yeah, that's pretty much been par for the course with this problem. Can't be replicated and seems to appear and disappear with no rhyme or reason. We'll continue to try to find and fix the issue, but so far nothing's worked, including stuff we've tried since the final update. Frustrating.
