10 year veterans with one team...

So this is Mike Trout's final year of his 10 year deal with the Angels in my league. He is playing very well and is a 5 star player.
I want to extend him but it won't allow me to do it. Does a 10 year player just get to walk without them getting an offer from the current team ?

If so , would you suggest that I try to trade him ?

Do you have a screen shot of not being able to extend him?

Is it not letting you extend him or his he not wanting to negotiate?

I don't know how to put a screen shot in here.

The "ACTION" button doesn't show extension on the list.
It does show/trade/position, etc.

You have to think this would be the case... Usually you should be an extension at almost any point in the year, except for if his contract is already at max length or theres already an extension that hasnt kicked in yet.

Even if he didnt want to negotiate, it should tell you that once you enter the negotiation screen, meaning the option is still available anyways.

No extension in place.
I can't get to negotiate/extension.
It would be OK if he said not interested , but the drop down ACTIONS button doesn't have that option.
But I can negotiate/extend my other players.
TRULY appreciate the assistance.

Mike Trout signed a 13-year-deal IRL, which the game does not allow for. Instead, they treat his final three years as an "extension". So even though his current "ten year deal" is about to end, he should still have the rest of his deal to go, and that could be why you cannot extend him. It's the same with Giancarlo Stanton, Bryce Harper. It should be the same for a guy like Mookie Betts too, but I haven't played a new MLB game starting in 2020 with his new contract in the game so I cannot confirm.

I'm assuming you stared this save in the 2020 season btw.

Simple answer. Current season is 2031. His contract is through 2032. Thus 1.5 years left on contract and players won't talk until they are in the last year, which the player is indicating to you in his response. Try to negotiate once off season starts at the end of year and you will get a response.
