Claiming a player that is out of Options

Someone waived a 26 year old RF that is out of minor league options. If I claimed him would I be able to put him in AAA or do I have to put him on my active roster?

If you want to put them in AAA they would need to clear waivers first.

Right so if I claimed him off waivers he would have to go on my active roster then?

Yes

But, no

You can claim them then try to pass them through waivers without ever putting them on your active roster

The player is on the 40 man roster. To be sent it the minors, by any team, the player has to be off the 40 man roster
