Historical Simulation Questions
I've recently come out of my OOTP retirement after a few years away from the game. I'm just now starting to play OOTP 21, and I have a few questions about historical simulations and whether some features have ever made it into the game.
1. Has the AI and game code ever been updated to allow historical teams or historical fictional teams to realistically sign rookies when you choose to import rookies as free agents rather than holding a draft? There has been an option to import rookies as free agents for years, but the AI wouldn't properly recognize their value or attempt to sign them. A human GM could simply sign most of the top rookies without any serious competition from the AI. To realistically simulate baseball for the many decades before free agency and the draft, I am hoping this has been addressed. And it's something I'd like to have for fictional historical leagues as well. 2. Has the AI ever been updated to evaluate historical players based on their future recalculated statistical value over the remaining years of their career, rather than their current ratings and potential? I doubt this has ever been implemented, but it was something I had asked to be added so AI teams could compete with the historical knowledge of a human GM. In other words, just like a human GM with access to historical statistics, the AI could "see" that a player would have a 15-year career in the historical database and be a consistent top performer vs. another player who might be good for a few seasons but then dramatically fall off and retire at a much earlier age. 3. Thanks. I've received the official email each year with the new feature announcements, but other than the slate of historical updates for OOTP19, I haven't seen much for the past two versions.
I was around when historical minors were implemented. I'm assuming it's still just a setting to use real life minor league affiliates and import historical minor league players from the database. I saw that the Negro Leagues had been added at some point, and I've seen discussion that the game incorporated some of the historical name mods. There have been some major changes to the world_default.xml file too, and those seem to affect fictional historical leagues quite a bit. |
