Rendon want to bat in middle

of my lineup. He sent me an email stating that. I have him in the 5 hole. How much more in the middle can he be? Trout bats 4th.

I have a power hitter with speed leading off and he's complaining about not batting in the middle. I can't imagine in reality anyone insisting to management that they get less at bats or they're going to ask to be traded.

Historically, 'middle of the order' has meant third or fourth. Batting fifth meant you were the third best hitter, at best (perhaps behind the on-base only guys) and likely to be the target of bean balls after the third and/or fourth guys homered. As Ralph Kiner (a quintessential clean-up batter) used to say on Met broadcasts, "Poor Wally Westlake. He always batted behind me."

I had the same thing happen once over 100+ seasons of playing. There have been plenty of times that I bat a player out of his expected spot and I can count the number of times the player has complained on 1 hand.

OOTP definition based on well over 1200 seasons played; 123 top 456 middle 789 bottom. I rarely get emails. My thought is the email comes when other things are not well ie bad season and if you have a different player not doing well where that player wants to be. I only move guys if convenient and if they are already doing well where they are.

No, top is more 1-2, middle is 3/4/5, although some of those values are loose. Also depends on vsL/vsR - if a guy hits 3rd vs L and 2nd vsR, he might technically satisfy both criteria.

Although when talking about morale and role, it's not like you hit him 3rd for a couple games and then he forgets everything. So it can take time to balance things out, and what can happen is if the other parts of morale are trending down, that could be enough to trigger the email, but despite the player role rising, it might still be the most negative of the values and trigger the specific complaint in the message.
