No Willie Mays?

Of course, I am getting old, so it's probable I missed him as I was peaking through the cards.

I was dismayed, though, to see right there on top - 100 Johnny Vander Meer. What is the love affair that OOTP has with this guy? His career was two great games in a row. He couldn't tie Johnny Sain's cleats...or Johnny Antonelli's...or even John Lackey's. I wouldn't embarrass John Smoltz by comparing him at all. It really strains credulity to see that card and I think reflects poorly on the historical ratings credibility. It's disappointing because I was appreciating the deflation I thought I was seeing this year.

Perfect Team is not and never has been nothing but a collection of the greatest players and seasons of all time. There are some bums in there and there are some guys who do like one or two things well. Vander Meer went to 4 All-Star Games and won more than 100 games in his career in spite of missing 2 years to World War II, which puts him ahead of at least 90% of every pitcher in baseball history.

For two games, he sure as hell was. I'll commence with the whining when they give Juan Nieves a 100 card.

People were complaining about multiple 100's of certain players last year. If there is only going to be one Willie Mays 100, then obviously it's not going to be available at the start, but reserved for franchise heroes.
