Multiplayer custom game - salary floor issues
I am experiencing an issue in FHM8 that I had, and reported, for previous versions of the game.
Basically when starting a new custom game (NHL+AHL+CHL with initial draft) your salaries won't be enough to get to the salary floor. You typically end up around $50-55M for most teams with a salary floor of $60.2M. And unfortunately there is nothing but 1 star minimum contract free agents remaining. The other problem then is typically the players in the NHL Draft are too good. I had to quit my most recent FHM7 custom game when in Year 3 the entire first round of the NHL draft was players who already had NHL first line ability (3.5 star ability already and 5 star potential). This is what lead me to start a new custom game for FHM8. These two issues have been around since at least FHM6. I believe I reported them for that version. It unfortunately really destroys the ability to play a custom game for multiple seasons. With OOTP, I have played 13 custom seasons across multiple versions of the game and never experienced this issue, but with FHM it is a consistent problem. It does not seem to produce custom players properly at start. Which is a shame, because I love the game, but it is a nightmare starting a new custom game, and I have only ever gotten a few years in before players abilities start to skew. I don't know if there is anything you can do in an upcoming patch. I hope so. |

When you're starting the custom game, when you get to the Set Up Your Manager screen, set the Percentage of Talent from Stats to 0 - I think the biggest part of the problem is the lack of stats history leading to the players being undervalued, and the starting contracts are generated according to those talent levels, which makes them too low. (and we increased the default percentage from stats this year, so that likely made it worse.) I think we'll need to change that number to default to 0 for custom games.
I'm not seeing an excessive amount of talent in the third entry draft in a test NHL-AHL-CHL game - there are only 4 guys that have 2.5 stars or better in current ability, and one of them is Connor Bedard, who's supposed to be like that. Fourth draft has nobody over 3, and only one 3. |
