League files on external drive?

I have a league I started back in 2004 that has over 70 years of played out history plus a few other leagues. I have the game installed on an older laptop (11 years old now) because my work laptop only has a small solid state drive. Well, now that older laptop is beginning to have issues. It is only used for the game and streaming tv while working.

Is it possible to buy a cheap new laptop, install the game on it, but maintain the my saved game league files on my 1 TB external hard drive and just load the game from there every time? Or does everything have to be on the laptop? The size of my saved leagues is 140 GB.

I believe you can do this in the game's settings, although I've never tried. See "Custom Saved Games Path" here.
