League Evolution for Anyone Except Your Team

I am really enjoying the game right now but I would have a small suggestion for later games: how about adding an option where the league would continue to evolve as happened historically except for your team? This way you could, for example, keep the Whalers in Hartford and still have the NHL around you keep going as it was, or have another WHA team manage to make it to the big league...

Admitedly, I could see some issues, as finding a way to make sure that the divisions still make sense geographically and avoiding things like potentially having two Winnipeg Jets team in the NHL at the same time but I was wondering if it would be at all possible in future versions?

The historical editing options in manager options (team deactivation, etc.) do most of that, allowing you to leave some parts of history evolving normally while you edit others. We might look at the ability to exclude a specific team at some point, but there are probably going to be some complications that would need to be worked out.
