2D Hits!
First the disclaimer. This may be a totally crazy idea, and I'm not even sure it's possible (I guess depending on how the 2D engine is coded).
That said, the way the 2D engine works right now, the player really has little idea (other than checking the boxscore or perhaps witnessing a penalty parade), if he's involved in a physical game or not. So the thought is, what if there was a way to improve immersion by giving the player a visual cue whenever a big hit took place? Perhaps a small 'impact graphic', or if that's too tricky to plot real-time coordinates, maybe just a brief flash in a limited area (like the rink border? - not full screen), so as to still be somewhat subtle and not blow the player away. If possible, I think it would increase the level of excitement and/or sense of challenge if the player felt as though he was crushing the opposition or simply being run out of the rink. Few things fuel the emotions more than a momentum swinging hit, and it would be wonderful if a little bit of that magic could be transplanted to FHM. Just a thought... Feel free to comment, modify and/or suggest something better. Even if you think it's a bad idea, please tell me why, as there's probably aspects to this I haven't thought about or realized. Who knows, if it makes sense, I might end up agreeing with you. ![]() |

What's going on when one box is jiggling around on top of another box? Is that a hit? I've noticed that if the puck is approaching two opposing boxes that are together and a battle for the puck is imminent, the box that isn't jiggling usually wins. So it's probably not that the jiggle-box is making a hit, unless the stationary box is "taking a hit to make the play."

When a hit occurs, there's a chance (depending on a few things - hitting ability, comparative size of the players, etc.) that the player being hit will be knocked away from the guy delivering the hit. I've thought about adding more of a visual cue, but it would probably need to be something fairly subtle - I don't want it looking like 60's TV Batman.

Exactly. Just something subtle that doesn't detract from the rest of the action on the ice. Maybe something unobtrusive like the team name in the score clock briefly flashing or changing color to indicate a hit. As long as it's something that can be fairly easily ignored by anyone who's really not interested.

I totally agree and I brought this up in my previous post. JeffR will you be able to make "Make a Body Check" option in 2D make your decisions with each player? Would that be an option?
Also I don't know if you read it, but there are some really big flaws in body checking totals when you play and make your decisions. I have many players that should be hitting the opponent but all I see is 1 or 2 hits shown in the box score. Have you been aware of this? Also the scoring is way too high when you are making your own decisions. Blow outs, very easy to score. |

Is there some kind of documentation page about the 2D system? Sometimes I'm a little mystified watching it
