I'm guessing if he suddenly retires the surgery didn't work.

I think the surgery gives him super-vision and he retires from baseball in order to fight crime and save the world from an evil alien overlord bent on galactic domination.

But I could be confusing this with another storyline.

It's an old storyline and I only saw it once years ago and...it wasn't a good result.

Well I can confirm the accuracy, my eyes are too broken for LASIK but I don't hate lenses enough to have a monkey eye transplant!

I got Island of Dr. Moreau vibes reading that.

How do storylines work? Do they always follow one set path or can they be done where 50% of the time they'll follow one and the other half they'll follow another?

Maybe don't tell us until the OP gets the rest.

I know at least some storylines have different outcomes because I've seen the "meditating with a guru" storyline play out at least dozen times.

Some storylines have alternate endings. So if you get ending "A" this time, you might get ending "B" next time, or even ending "C" or "D." I'm not sure about this particular storyline. I think it has two possible outcomes.

I will post the result. My guess is the surgery is somewhat successful but Mejia ends up platooning with the monkey.

He demands bananas instead of Gatorade in the dugout?

He contracts monkeypox, a career-ending injury.

Good example of the alternate endings is that bleeping guru. There's a positive ending (comes back invigorated with improved performance), a neutral ending (comes back saying it was a waste of time), and a negative ending (comes back disillusioned saying there's other things in life than baseball).

I hope the surgery goes well, I suppose he'll either lead the league in BB or Ks. Maybe even HBP... "I didn't see it coming"

Joy in Mudville! (And North Hempstead.) Jimmy Mejia is smiling! The doctor is smiling! The monkey is smiling, but will take no more questions at this time!

IRL Eddie Rosario had serious eye surgery this year, and is in the recovery process. Manny Machado had laser surgery last year (and had a tremendous year). So, it’s a thing. Not sure they will end up at the Ted Williams level, being able to read the league president’s signature on the ball as it approaches the plate.

Speaking as someone who has had laser surgery twice in one eye, you don't get better, either the deterioration stops (like me) or you are restored to about where you were most of your life--like glaucoma or cataracts.
