Sleepless in Seattle

Well, my first time trying a Dynasty Report and I thought what better place to start than my favourite city in the US (I'm an Aussie) than Seattle.

First day on the job was to have a look at what is going on in Seattle and who's who in the zoo and like the Mariners in real life, I decided to keep J Rod in the Majors along with Kelenic.

First day at work, it was time to make some trades and clear out some dead wood prior to the season commencing.

Tom Murphy out and Juan Yepez in. Good backup for Ty France and can fill in as a DH every so often.

Let's get to the opening series, a roadtrip to Minnesota!

Opening Series @ Minnesota (Apr 7-11)

What a way to start the season! A cold Thursday afternoon in middle America with a four game series against the Twins.

Game 1 - 5-3 W - Gilbert got the Opening Day start and didn't disappoint going six innings with 6K, 1BB, 4H and 2R and the offense backed them up with J Rod and Moore going back-to-back in the 1st and a superb rally in scoring three in the 9th capped off by Raileigh's 2-run single.

Game 2 - 2-3 L - Unfortunately for us, Paddack had a great game only giving up 4 hits in 6 innings and Robbie Ray having a shocker in 5.1 innings giving up 3 walks,5 hits and 3 runs including 2HRs. Only highlight for us was a Haniger homer with 8 LOB.

Game 3 - 1-7 L - Wow. This went downhill fast. 0-0 after three innings and then Matt Brash just capitulated with a five run fourth. He gave up 8H, 5R and 2BB in four innings of work and no help from the bats.

Game 4 - 2-5 L - Much like Game 3. Had a 2-0 lead going into the 4th and Elias had to leave the game injured so in comes Steckenrider and in 1.2 innings has 5H, 4R and 2 in 47 pitches. Never recovered from there.

So after our first series we sit on 1-3 with some serious questions needing to be asked of some players like Brash, Steckenrider, Moore, and Kelenic.

Trade: Was out of options for Marco and didn't need another pitcher so off to Oakland with you and we might have a use for Pinder.

Time to pack the bags and head to Chicago for three against the White Sox where hopefully we can improve our fortunes.

Windy City Woes - @ White Sox (April 12-14)

Game 1 - 1-5 L - We were behind the 8-ball from the start with Wojciehowski giving up 3 runs in the 1st and one each in the 2nd and 4th to finish with 4.0IP, 8H, 5R, 2BB off 88 pitches for an ERA of 11.25 and the offense you ask? Well they had 3 hits, one with was a Kelenic (1) home run in the 5th. The decision was made to DFA Wojciehowski after the game and call up Margevicius from AAA.

Game 2 - 3-4 L - This was a tough loss to take. Gilbert pitched six good innings backed by the offense which gave us an early 2-0 lead after Toro hit a 2-run single in the 2nd only for Sewald to blow it in the 7th by giving up a HR to Anderson and then Sheets walked it off in the 9th.

Game 3 - 1-5 L - This was a really pitchers dual with Margevicius making his first start and pitching 4.1 solid innings with 4 hits and no runs before Elias chimed in with 2.1 innings with no hits allowed at all but when luck isn't going your way, it isn't going your way. Robert hit a solo homer in the 8th to break the deadlock and of course, we had six hits for the day but left 11 on base for another frustrating loss but the good signs are there, we were at least competitive.

Trade Alert - Before we head home to play our first series in Seattle against the Astros and Rangers, the decision has been made to trade Sergio Romo, Billy Hamilton and Cameron Ming to Cleveland of 24 year old RF Oscar Gonzalez and 23-year old SS Jose Fermin.

Transactions - After giving up the deciding run in Game 3 against the Sox, Murfee is going for a spell in AAA with CF Zach DeLoach being called up to the Majors.
