Tuition in NCAA hockey

I've played a bit of FHM in the past, but when I learned FHM 9 would include NCAA hockey, I jumped at the chance to give it a try.

I wasn't sure which program I want to run, so I took a look at all of them. I made a spreadsheet with information about each program's ratings. I noticed something interesting when I compared the Tuition ratings for the different schools.

Universities that I'd think would have similar Tuition ratings differ widely. For example, Ivy League schools like Dartmouth, Princeton, and Yale are Inexpensive. Brown and Harvard are Average, and Cornell is Expensive.

On the other hand, Bentley and Quinnipiac are Very Expensive, while Boston College is Average and Boston University is Expensive. They're all private colleges/universities in New England.

I'm trying to figure out how this works. Could it reflect how much financial assistance--aside from athletic scholarships--a program can offer a recruit? I know plenty of athletes who play for schools who don't offer athletic scholarships, such as the Ivies, receive other kinds of scholarship help.

Any insight you could provide would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it's taking financial assistance into account, among other things. Bascially, it's estimating what the real cost of attending the school is to a typical student-athlete; Harvard may have tuition of $75k per year, but for most students the actual cost net of financial aid winds up being a small fraction of that. I found some numbers for actual average net tuition fees and based the ratings largely on those, with some modifications for special cases - e.g. the Army and Air Force academies may technically be tuition-free, but also carry a hefty service obligation afterwards that's a big limitation on immediate post-graduation income, so I made them more "expensive."

That's what I hoped the case might be. Thanks for the information! I'm looking forward to starting a career at the NCAA level.
