Handling big saves

(Maybe I should have named the thread "Handling big SAVE FILES", my bad, should have known better than to just throw "saves" around on a baseball forum :P)

Hi. I've noticed that all the files/images/etc in a single save file, once the save has gotten a few decades into the simulation, can grow to a size that's a bit hard to handle on my 500GB hard drive.
Do y'all have any tips, ideas, whatever for dealing with saves when they get too large to handle? Is the best option to just compress the save files as much as possible once the savefile has been played to completion/desire?

I do use the almanac feature, and I'm aware that can add quite the extra size to savefiles, so is the best option just ditching that?

Take a look at this screen and decide what you really want to forever keep. This screenshot is from a sim I ran and I dropped a lot of things as I wanted the 1901-current day sim to run faster - but faster is affected by the same things as file size too. Also, the number of leagues and minor league levels can greatly impact this too.

There should probably be a sticky or flat-out page in the manual (though I have not checked the manual yet) on file size mitigation tips. The relative magnitude of each element that we can toggle on/off, what precisely it is, realistically, if you are ever going to look at it two decades into the sim, etc.
