PT 24, more ptw than ever

I've been playing Perfect Team for a long time, and by far this is the version that you need to use money to be competittive. Diamond chance in standard packs is ridicoulous, there are less packs from tournaments, build-a-line missions are almost imposible to complete without money, cause you cannot generate enough coins. In conclusion this version of Perfect Team is absolutely a PTW one.

Good luck m8s

What do you mean by competitive? I define competitive as a diamond league team that makes the playoffs 50% of the time. I believe this can be done without spending a dime. But, you have to take your time. I don't expect to have a competitive team until after October when prices for good cards come down substantially and I will have saved plenty of points with which to buy them.

If your strategy has been unsuccessful so far ask yourself why. Don't blame the game. Find a new strategy. Here is a hint from PT23. Note the starting year. Thousands of teams had an 18-week head start. And that's the secret, when everyone is hitting a wall I was doing nothing! (Now imagine you were doing something like saving PP and packs to open later for 18 weeks, even this could be improved upon.)

Few people want to wait to win in October after most teams are already on autopilot.

I must agree with the OP. This is the first PT where I feel PTW may not be the only option to be competitive, but it is if you are not retired or being supported by someone else so you have 24/7 to spend on PT. I would think the number of accounts will take another hit for PT25.

I have a competitive Diamond team with all missions except Jackie, Lou, and Negro League 2 completed at the cost of original purchase plus three months of PT+. 108 tournament wins, playoffs last week, and I'm saving points since we seem to have hit a wall in terms of quality new cards and missions (other than NeL2, which is still too pricey).

It's doable, although it's gotten less friendly for FTP. I personally wonder what I would've drawn in the 216 packs I lost to the tournament rewards downgrade.

Preface; I love the game, I love what Markus & Co. have given us for 24 years, and I do love the "concept" of Perfect Team.

That said, once the game was sold to com2uS, "profit" became the primary goal. On one hand, I perfectly understand the new management wanting to make as much as possible - on the other hand, I'm sad the 24 year relationship we had with the original OOTP team plays second fiddle to new management.

I fully expect future versions of PT to become more-and-more P2P oriented which will eventually lead to higher profits through a smaller (and different) market.

I will probably try PT25 in some fantasy hope that F2P players will be given more consideration, but I really expect the time will come I will exclusively return to the classic game.

This week (so far) is convincing me my time with PT24 is coming to an end...

And since I bothered to write this post, I'll repeat the ONE THING I think would keep players like me invested in PT longer = SLOW DOWN the release of higher value cards. If half the teams weren't all Perfect cards by the end of the baseball season, competition would survive longer.

Thats all, HRB

I'm sorry to hear this. Will you please humor me and at least log in every day with one of your teams and do nothing? Let your team play and save every pack you get, then open them all when you save up at least 200. Then see if you can make a run to diamond and stay there.

Agree 100% with the op. It's sad, I love this game, but I can't justify even making an effort anymore. Played for far too many years, and it's just dying out. I don't even understand it, only 60-ish 100-rated players on the card market, and yet all those tourneys are constantly filling before you can even click "sign up." Either people are hoarding good players and trading them between their teams through illicit auction house transactions, or nobody is getting good players.

Frankly, I've noticed packs seem very light on good players this season. I might make a post about that...

People need to be realistic about PT goals. You're not going to win at Perfect or Diamond (generally) unless you pony up...true. Too many whales dropping megabucks.

I'm free-to-play, and one of my teams has been in Diamond for 3 weeks. Sure, they're getting their *** handed to them. So what? I'm THERE. Unlike the other 29 teams in my league, I didn't spend a cent. I've also had a ton going on in life that has kept me from the game. It can be done.

Set your goals realistically. If you win a Gold WS as a FTP, pat yourself on the back. If you do better, celebrate. Remember, there's still the one-time bonus when you make Diamond...and it's a nice help when you get relegated and want to whack some people in Gold.

It's a GAME, people. Enjoy it...don't make it into work.

Realistically, the fact that you have to do things a certain way to hit the same advantages everyone else is already making this "work." You can't be competitive unless you do things that way, or pay to win.

It is work to have to study how to do things a certain way to get to diamond level. That's preposterous. And you have to do that to even have a chance to be competitive. It is work to have to study other teams winning the quick tourneys to put together a similar team. It is work to have to get up at certain times in the morning to actually sign up for meaningful tourneys. And those two are for getting PT points to buy packs and players. So I find that comment rather ridiculous, because you HAVE made it time consuming, efforted, and "work" - it's just, you might enjoy that work more than everyone else because you've gotten some luck along the way in your pack pulls.

Heck, you said you have multiple teams - so clearly you're doing that because you want to play the odds and try to get an advantage with one team. If this was "just a game" and you didn't want to "work" you would play with one team and just laugh and shrug when you lose. But having some success certainly makes it more fun, no? And I'm sure you're fielding multiple teams for better odds at that success, am I right? So how do you think it feels to those who haven't had lucky pack pulls or luck in game?

By the way, how are your other teams faring? Are they doing well? Just curious and wondering if you didn't have your diamond team if you would be enjoying this as much as you say you are. Also, are you playing the tourneys and the PDs? A few times a day I'm guessing?

EDIT: Sorry, I know I'm being grumpy here. But it's obnoxious for someone who has spent as much time and effort as you have in game, and that is getting success, to tell everyone else "suck it up, enjoy losing, enjoy your bad luck, it's just a game!" :P I'm sure you can understand that.

interesting comment coming from someone who complained about how toxic things are in this community in another thread

gotta agree with Ty, it's just a game. When a gaming experience begins to feel like a chore/work; perhaps it's time to find something more enjoyable to do. That's not saying I don't get frustrated/annoyed when I lose year after year in the playoffs to teams I handled easily in the regular season; but that's the way this game goes (happens to real MLB clubs all the time).

if the standard PT team isn't fun; try building a tourney team for a specific tier. Try your luck at drafts. Or just play out a season in the regular game. Plenty of options if one aspect of the game isn't enjoyable.

If it feels like work, then you are playing the wrong game.

One of my "other teams" is in Diamond this week. They have no PT+, no Tournaments, and little time(work?) spent on them. Just play, it is a game.

Congrats, that's awesome. You've had some great lucky pulls, I'm assuming - some that you were able to sell for lots of PT Points and buy everything you needed to field a competitive team. No?

I guess nobody should ever point out the frustration of someone who is having success telling those who aren't to suck it up and enjoy the game. Imagine if some MLB player on a team that just won tells that to a player on the team they just beat? No bad blood there, right? He should just enjoy the game!

Let's be honest with ourselves here - everyone knows it's just a game. But realistically, we complain because we haven't had success or more apropos, the luck to get that success. For someone who is having success to tell those who aren't "it's just a game, play and have fun" is like a rich man telling a poor man to just "enjoy life and don't worry about money."

How about this: tell us about your worst teams this year. You're fielding multiple, right? Tell us about the bad ones. That would be more beneficial than saying "omg my best team is in Diamond! Yours isn't, but just enjoy the game!"

Let's be real, PT is all about luck - it's basically a gambling game where we open packs and try to get some great pulls. If we want to play the strategy aspect of OOTP, we play the normal game. How about next time you go to Vegas, and you hit a decent payout, turn to the guy watching you in torn jeans and a tattered shirt and say "oh just play it as a game, don't worry if you win like I just did" and tell us how that goes. I can't tell you how it will go, because apparently it's toxic for me to do that.

You're objectively wrong.

I've never been lucky enough to pull any of the top cards, or even a 500K card to sell, lol, and that's 4 seasons of playing. Though I did have some fun fireselling a team last year and buying a few hundred perfect packs - definitely pulled some gems then (but I sold them all, sadly). I'd say my overall luck has been spectacularly average, which tends to be the case after you pull a few hundred thousand packs. I'm not complaining.

Regardless of this, I had a lot of success as F2P last year, and none of it was due to luck. Playing the live updates, preparing for missions ahead of time, maximizing tournaments and tournament rosters, etc, etc. If you put in time and effort, you're basically guaranteed to have a top team that plays in Perfect League at some point (Four seasons for me last year, one play-off appearance).

And I assure you, the top guys who spend a lot of money, and the top guys that don't, they maximize in all of these ways and more, or they would not be on top. No one lands there by luck. The season is too long. Even a few million points barely makes a difference one way or the other for a top team; that's just an expensive mission set, lol.

MLB is their job. They get paid to play that game. I don't work for OOTP and make zero money playing OOTP or PT. If you work for OOTP and this is your job, then maybe you see it differently than "just a game".

sure, let's compare... my worst team of three is currently in Bronze. Yearly breakdown and current lineup in the screenshots (that's Gold Gehrig, not Diamond/Perfect). Highest level so far is Silver. Made the playoffs 7 times / missed 6 times. Never won a World Series. FTP, no PT+, isn't my account for Twitch-drops; and rarely does much tourney stuff so far outside the friday night Twipt tourney if I remember to join; so basically gets cards from daily sign-in packs, packs from missions, mission rewards, and the occasional find in the auction house.

do I still have fun with this team? Sure. I keep my expectations realistic and know that maybe half the time I'm going to miss the playoffs; and even if I make the post season, there's a solid chance one of the other entrants are vastly superior to me and will knock me out. Outside the ins-and-outs of the PT season, I keep track of my worst "golf packs" (i.e. - 60 rating is par; 50 rating is minus 10; how far under par can you get on a single pack? My "best" so far is a minus 73). But after all that, I still find the game fun and an enjoyable use of my free time.

If that's not the case for someone, this might not be the right use of free time for them.

hey, you're the one who said you can't believe how toxic this community is after quoting my post that just said the snarky/sarcastic commentary of that OP deserved some sarcasm in return. If that's "toxic" then so is your responses. Or... both are just normal back-n-forth discussion of varying viewpoints and the "toxic" buzzword just needs to be left out.

I have 4 teams. None of them are bad; each one is developing in a different way. I may not be successful with all of them, but it is too early in the game cycle to say for sure.

I had 3 teams last year. The best one is described in the banner below. The second one also made PeL and the third one I made a theme team that can win championships in Gold, but gets crushed in Diamond. No money spent on any of them, however, a fair bit of what you call "work" was required.

I guess, in the end, you are right. All the good teams in this game are lucky. All the good teams are lucky to have managers that enjoy the "work" required to win.

I had a bad week last week, so now I've got one in gold and 2 in silver. I play zero tournaments...they're work. I play zero PD's for the same reason. I don't even do live. Most of my game time is spent playing regular OOTP and developing skyboxes and logos and uni's for a Quickstart I'm working on. I used to get all worked up about PT...now I just say, "**** it," and enjoy it. If I lose this week, I'm not out anything but a few minutes of time. When you're FTP...they're only points.

Do you need to do things "a certain way" to get to Diamond? Sure...spend wisely. Invest your time carefully. Don't get emotional. And for God's sake, don't waste your time stocking your team with players just because you like them.

not just pay to win but pay big to win. im not sure there is any middle of the road rewards to make it worth it. i just spent 300$ on the current sale. i used some of it to do some missions and try to upgrade roster and i spent some on packs. over the last few days i opened a good 1200 packs. some of that was from stream rewards, missions etc. but i got basically nothing decent to show for it. 90 percent live cards and anything that wasnt live wasnt worth anything. ive played this game for a good 4-5 years now. i think the first year i pulled a perfect willie mays that was worth around 600k. in those 5 years ive never pulled any sort of LE. i think the programming in the game is rigged to not release these sort of meta cards unless its massive amounts of packs being opened. im even convinced the odds of physical cards from stores have higher odds of getting autographed cards than you get here.
