Manager Goals

New to the game and playing the 1973 season. My manager goal said I needed to upgrade at second base. Cleared out my farm system to get Joe Morgan and traded away Horace Clarke.

The game doesn't consider Morgan an upgrade over Clarke (!) and still says I need to upgrade!

Why is this happening?

Your owner is an idiot. It's part of the realism of the game.

In this context, "upgrade" is purely based on stats, not subjectively as to the player's talent or reputation. So, as long as Joe performs as you expect, the Owner will consider this Goal complete at the end of the season.

If that's the case then the owner shouldn't consider it a need after action is taken. It should be "I see you're working on this, best of luck" or something like that.

Why? In his mind it is yet to be seen whether or not an upgrade has in fact been made.

Because the owner is still asking for action when the GM has taken action.

"Action" isn't sufficient in this context; only "The right action".
