Explain this player request

I am managing the 1978 Expos. My SS is Chris Speier, who is a 55 shortstop and has no other positions listed.

He sent me a message saying "I know baseball is a team sport, but I don't think you are using some guys on this team as well as you could. You got guys like me that aren't getting a chance to prove ourselves at our natural position. I'm part of the starting lineup, not a 'role player.' I hope you understand."

I in fact do not understand. I have played 21 games. Chris Speier has started 21 games. All at shortstop.

It’s the game trying (and failing) to give you the illusion of team chemistry. Similar to owner goals.

Not my favorite feature. And I wish it could be a dialog. Where you can respond by saying “WTF are you talking about, Chris?! Explain to me what it is that you want. Or are you just complaining for the sake of complaining?” I’m not known for my patience, and when I have had incomprehensible messages like that, I trade or DFA the player, figuring nothing good can come of such nonsense. If anything, the game engine is telling me that this dude is a problem child who will ruin the team chemistry and is not worth poisoning the clubhouse.

Sounds like a bug in the code with a message being triggered for a player where it doesn't apply. I'd put it in the bugs section.

I turn the feature off. I want a baseball sim not a psychology sim.

I think I may have figured this out. While Speier was, in fact, playing every day at shortstop, he was not in my default saved lineup.

I manage every game in this save, so I wasn't diligent about keeping my default lineups up to date. I just set each game's lineup when I started it.

Seems like the "am I playing and where?" part of keeping a player happy may pull from the default lineups and not "reality."

I think you're correct, he needs to be in the currently used default lineup.

Maybe this is why Gary Carter and Andre Dawson are a combined 28-for-190 with 1 home run for me.

Everyone else is doing fine. Confounding version, 24.

Oct 9 2024 its 79,561. Why do people use different players, different lineups, different strategy, development, talent change randomness, and the development lab, but judge the game on whether it produces historical statistics?
