Game Crashes trying to load Saves
I've been playing since fhm7 and have never encountered this glitch. In fhm10 it has already ruined two saves. I started a game as the san jose sharks, played through a season and a bit. Then when I tried to load the save at a later time it would load to 64% then crash. I started a save as the Blackhawks and again after getting past a season and a half it does the exact same thing when trying to load the game. What is happening? Is there any way to fix this if it's a known bug?

My first guess would be some sort of corruption during the save process when you exit the game, but we'd need to see the save to be sure if it's that and not something else. Could you upload one of the saves that's failing to load? (upload instructions at https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=341827)

I believe I emailed you the compressed files. The name is 'Blackhawks Corrupt Save'. Thanks a bunch for looking into this. Let me know if there's any problems

Yeah, looks like it is save corruption, something interrupted the save process partway through and about 20 files, including some critical ones, are completely empty.
The save might not be completely lost: If you check in the rs_one or rs_two folders, you may have an intact backup in one of those; copying the files in that subfolder into the main folder, overwriting the ones that are there. That may let you load the game from a previous save point. But more importantly, we need to figure out what's causing the interruption and corruption. The first thing to try would probably be switching your game data to a custom location; that should fix the problem if it's something related to where the saves are being stored: On the start screen, go to Settings and then Misc. Go to Custom Data Path, and change it to a new location (ideally on a different hard drive, but at a minimum somewhere that isn't in your \documents folder.) Let it copy the files over, then restart your game and try starting a new test game, playing it for a while, exiting the game and saving it, and then restart and reload to see if the save process worked properly and you still have a working save. |

I just tried the backup saves and changed the data path and I think it worked for the most part, but in my old save everyone is now named 'Jim Unknown' unless there's an easy way to fix that it looks like I may have to bite the bullet and start over again

Yeah, that old save may be too damaged to fix. The Jim Unknown thing happens when the names.dat file is empty; if you copied names.dat from a working save into that one, it might fix that problem, but I suspect there would be a lot of other data issues as well.
