Why OOTPGO24 deserves 1 out of 5 stars
OOTPGO has been a major letdown of late. Here are major misses by OOTP on why it should be rated very low:
1. No exhibition mode. No ability to recreate a historical World series or pit 2 teams from different years against one another. I guess it would be too much fun to play an exhibition tournament or World Series while you are on your phone or tablet? 2. No 2D or instant result when playing game. Oddly the instant option was present in the original OOTPGo then taken away. 3D does not work on all devices and playing OOTPGO doesn’t mean we only want 3D. Just let us play a text based game? 3. No commish mode. No ability to import historical players you purchased, create hall of fame draftees or free agents, no flexibility on trades and team setup. 4. No ability to transfer saved games from previous versions. I guess OOTP figures you shouldn’t play this game anyway? 5. No simulation mode or exhibition within the season. OOTP just refuses to allow OOTPGO users any flexibility within the game. In the base game under the PLAY menu there is a Simulation Mode and Play Exhibition Game. But not in OOTPGO. 6. No Association playoffs. 7. Limited reports and capabilities in Perfect team. You are allowed to spend money but you cannot edit park factors or customize reports as you can do with the package game. You can join tournaments, but OOTPGO has many limitations to be able to make changes. So many I cannot list them all. 8. No ability to export data. It’s a data driven game with no data export ability. I am sure there are other points I missed, but overall, OOTPGO series has been incredibly limited when it didn't need to be! Too many intentional limitations makes this game a major disappointment Please don't create another version until you care about the product you deliver?

Wow, so you are still kind of up in the air on your feelings here.
![]() I would point out the game is (1) essentially free to play—and only costs $0.99 to $4.99 for any season you want; (2) very limited by the IOS system (not the developers’ fault); and (3) only intended to be a scaled-down version of the desktop game. As far as I know, nothing you listed is not easily doable in a more robust system, but no IOS-type app has the full features and options as its sister program does in the PC version. It seems like your post ignores the fact that we get a really, really good game for a few pennies and there is always the opportunity to go more in-depth if you want on your PC. To say you want a few more features is fine. It’s a free speech board within reason. To say the game is essentially worthless—that’s not fair. |

Let me pay $5 for the full game on my phone I hear this about the mobile version of FM all the time. Maybe learn what is actually capable to be put on a mobile version. If you want to play the full game, pay the full price on PC.

Sharing my opinion- I know absolutely zero about what could be or is possible in developing an app so it would be irresponsible of me to make assumptions on what can/can't be done.
With that said, I was skeptical on whether I would like Go when the first version came out. While iOOTP and MLB Manager were simplistic in comparison, I enjoyed the simplicity even though those games had limitations. Turns out I am really enjoying Go, and while yes, there are a couple of features that would enhance my enjoyment (which I have posted about) overall I am satisfied and rated the game a 5 in the app store, there is no other app that comes close to giving me what I have for a one time payment for the historic bundle with that purchase transferable*to the next version. It can't get much better than that. I am on a seven hour flight tomorrow morning and I will be happily playing Go to pass the time. I found* iOOTP*in the app store back in 2011 what that did, is lead me to the desktop version and I am sure that is, in part, what the app is for, finding new consumers and PT players. If it is possible to turn this app into the full featured desktop version, they would be fools to do it. They have got to eat and pay bills just like the rest of us and can't give away 24 years of work for a one time in app purchase.* Last edited by Edster007; 05-13-2023 at 04:40 AM. |

Great post Edster. I only play on my iPad now and while I do miss a few features in the desktop version, the simpler mobile game is largely more enjoyable. If I were a kid or retired, honestly, I’d really want to go deep into the PC version but with a job and family it’s just too much for me. I kind of like the stripped-down version a bit.
My point to the original post is it’s just not fair to say this is a one-star game because you wish it had things that are already available to you in a more robust version on a PC. I don’t believe they can do that level here, and if they could that people would want to pay $40 for an app on their phone. They understand the market and built two independent, but largely similar, games at different feature/price levels. That’s what businesses do. I believe the OP would say GM is screwing him because his Impala doesn’t have all the features of the Corvette. |

I would pay just to have a few features added. And I did pay 19.99 for all season + 4.99 for current seasons. Just disappointed that some features weee even taken away from MLB manager and original OOTPGO. This could have been much better!!!

I like to paraphrase something I read from Roger Ebert, that you can’t review the game you would’ve made.

I would have preferred more playable options rather than having 3D which I don't need on a phone.

I enjoyed MLB Manager, but it was discontinued and replaced by OOTPGO around 4 years later. After constantly begging for the correct features we were told NO on the features wanted and provided unnecessary features that were not meant for an app. Unfortunately there are users ruining the game by giving a 5/5 rating for a game that is not understanding the users. I would pay to get the right features. Free was just to promote PT. OOTPGO is a flop! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I do however agree that it would be nice to be able to play games with 3D deactivated as an option because that can burn through my phone battery pretty quickly. And it’s not the developers fault you decided to spend your money on their game. That was your choice and it sounds like it was one you would take back… we’ve all experienced that at some point. |

The developers chose what to leave out. So yeah, I do blame them. Wish there was better understanding of an app user versus a desktop user? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did the developers inform you of what was included before you decided to purchase the whole bundle? Did you test the free version (or the $0.99 add on) before buying everything?

I did test beforehand and tried to communicate for YEARS, what was wanted in the app. But other complacent users don't care about the game and will give it a 5/5 regardless. I started this post again to try to get the game to improve.

Dude, you seriously need to find a more important cause in life to invest years into. This is worth somewhere around 20 minutes of your life as a cause. Go start an orphanage or a small business. Learn yoga or how to paint. It’s an app you use in your free time, not your lifelong obsession. For that matter, build a better baseball game for the iPhone that has all the features you want, or just buy season tickets to the Rays and enjoy the magical season of 2023. Chill.

Clearly either not enough other users share your same thoughts for it to be worth investing time or money into, or there are things that are beyond the capabilities of the device and system the game is on. The company is going to do what they feel benefits them the most and what will drive the most sales. Gotta remember, they are running a business, a lot more goes into that than satisfying each individual user

Thanks for your response. Your vague half hearted reply is why the game will not improve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes it is a business and I understand the primary purpose of OOTPGO is to add more Perfect Team users to spend money. I really preferred the app limited resources were used for the baseball game not 3D graphics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For what it is worth, if you are not adding to the conversation and just replying to prove how great and complacent you are, just don’t bother replying.

For me, one of the biggest downsides is the fact you can't add Expansion teams. Yes, you could add the teams using the "edit league structure" menu, however then you either end up with a team of terrible FAs or a overpowered team if you fill the league with fictional players.

Simple. Poor customer service. Why buy a game or anything for that matter when your questions or concerns fall on deaf ears. Otherwise I'd give it 3 of 5, but that not what we're talking about.
