Insane Trade Offers
Can someone tell me why the AI sends me totally ridiculous trade offers. They are offering my low A players with a 20 potential for major league players with a current rating of 60 and a nice long team contract. I don't understand. I would be foolish to even consider any of these trades. I wouldn't ask but it is every trade offer. When I go in and ask for more they decline it.

Hmm where do you have Trade Difficulty set? I usually have the slider set to high and the AI preferring veterans. But I don't get repeated silly offers.

*** Deleted my post due to it being too much whining with too little testing***
Emailed offers, though, I've personally always ignored. They are either always awful, or now and then make me feel like I am cheating by accepting. Is anyone finding email offers different? I'd thought we were talking about shop now when I initially replied.

I get occasional good offers that I accept. For the most part the trade makes sense for the AI asking for a player it can use and giving a reasonable player in return. Other times I get "fair offers" that I turn down because I don't see the offered player being something I need. I have no problem with that. One of the best offers I can recall is a team offering me a top 10-15 starting pitcher currently at AAA while asking for my highest rated minor league SP in return. My guy was, IIRC, 50ish in the top 100 players and at A+ level. There player was older, more developed, with some control issues and a history of injury (not wrecked). My guy was younger with a ceiling a bit lower than there's. But no health or control issues. They asked for him and a position player that projected to be MLB depth. Overall a good deal for both clubs. If I get a "too good to be true" offer it is usually a "problem child". I think I've had two of these from v23 to my first season in v25. To me it's trade AI in a computer sports game. Like all games of this genre it can be improved. Compared to other games I've played it's accpetable IMHO. YMMV.

I have trade setting to hardest setting, and in the middle for veterans and prospects.
Sure the AI offers awful trades many times, but could be a starting point if AI really likes a player. I’ve also seen good offers. In my personal franchise I’ve seen the CPU offer a 50-55 IF prospect, along with a 50 all-star reliever for a 50 OF and another 45 or so prospect. In my Royals season I needed SP so offered OF MJ Melendez (50) for RHP Dane Dunning (50) of Texas and deal went through. Deals can be made, and will get offered, it just may not be the exact player/prospect you want. |

Getting ridiculous trade offers has been going on since I've been playing this franchise, and that goes back to Season Ticket Baseball. Us humans make really bad trade offers to the AI all the time, too.
I have a policy of never trading within my division if I can help it. What bothers me is often the best offers come from teams in my division. Oh well.

Oddly, sometimes you can respond to the ridiculous offer with something reasonable, and the opposing GM may bite. I usually ignore them, but sometimes it is just a clumsy overture to get a conversation started. So, if you're in the mood to deal, it might be worth fishing for a fair deal - or LOL a one-sided deal your way.

You could advance the difficulty a couple of clicks, and see if that changes anything. I expect not, though. You could also adjust the bottom sliders to prefer veterans or prospects. I normally have the AI preferring vets, so that I have a chance to trade for prospects; but that's because I usually am GM and manager of a bad team that is rebuilding.

Emailed offers are generally bad. For example, you can often negotiate and get a better deal by simply adding one more player from their side, or removing one of your players they are asking for. Trade difficulty during trading deadline day seems to be lowered somewhat, so the best deals will generally come on that day. |

One thing to remember though is that the GMs of opposing teams are not operating just to serve us. They are wanting to "win" trades that they make the same way that we do. And the good ole' start high and negotiate down from there has always been a trusted negotiating tactic.
Yes, I agree most offers emailed to us are insane. But again, that's because the computer wants to win that trade. If someone they are offering is someone you're interested in, or if one of your guys that they are targeting is someone you wouldn't mind dumping, you can often negotiate into a more reasonable deal for your team. Flip the scenario though.... if you are initiating a trade discussion with another team, your initial attempt is going to be for a pretty aggressive "win" on your end, and if the opposing GM doesn't take the bait then you negotiate down from there. At time it can be annoying receiving so many bad offers when you might not be looking to deal, but as far as "why" the offers start out bad, I get it. |

Insane trade offers can be fun. I just finished replaying 1979 as GM of the Mets and I guess I had set trade difficulty too low because at the deadline I got an offer for Joel Youngblood from the Red Sox where they offered me some guy named Wade Boggs.
I mean if THEY were the one making the offer, it would have been silly to turn them down LOL |

"Wade Boggs"? Worst fake name I've ever heard. What, he wades through bogs? What's next, a pitcher named Rollie Fingers?
