Quickest to win a championship with Oakland

4th time is the charm....

What is the quickest someone has won a championship with Oakland, without adjusting any settings in OOTP 24, while having hard trades?

Sounds like a fun challenge.

To confirm the parameters:
1. No going into any of the Settings screens
2. Challenge mode or no?
3. Live start rosters or no?
4. Hard trading mode - does that mean all the way to hard? There is a slider when starting a new game in challenge mode that goes Normal -> | -> Hard. Should it be Normal (all the way left), in the middle, or Hard (all the way to the right)?
5. Unlimited trades allowed? I like to turn a paperclip into a house via an insane amount of trades although I haven't tried this with hard trades.
6. Soft exploits allowed? I know many many exploits of the AI even on challenge mode and without changing settings, are they all fair game? Example: watch waiver wire every single day and claim basically every player that isn't complete garbage. They can, on average, be trade-grinded into additional assets (admittedly haven't tried this with hard trades).

Just don't want any moving of the goalposts after the challenge is accepted.

Thanks for response. I'm intrigued that more people haven't responded to this. I have tried many time to get an answer on different websites, no answer. Whenever I get a sports games, I always go for the hardest team to win, and see how quick I can make a championship team. I never like to adjust settings, with OOTP, unless I'm messing around.

1. Don't adjust any game settings that could make the game easier. Outside from trades.
2. Challenge mode Yes.
3. Live start - I don't know if it would make harder or easier. I've played 4 different versions of this game and never attempted to play live start.
4. Trades - Slide all the way to the right (Hard), but don't push the button that stops you from seeing other GM's thoughts.
5. No limit on trades. I'm the same way, I like to take the worst team, make it a monster ASAP, just enjoy the best team/farm system in the league for years. Wrack up them stats, records. In previous versions I have won championships 1st year (normal trades), starting with the worst team in the league. Trade a bunch before day 1, so that you've got a decent squad at start of season.
6. Exploit away. Waivers, sign and trade the best free agents for prospects. Be careful though. You may get stuck with big salary on a good player that all gms will think they are an overpaid veteran.

With normal trades I think Championship is for sure doable within two seasons, exploiting everything you can.

I tried 4 seasons. Was 1st or 2nd overall in the 3rd and 4th seasons. But was a little bored so i simulated the playoffs and lost in the second round and the first round.

I went gangbusters on singing free agents in year 3, using the old "sign a long term deal, but the first year is for 5 million and the rest of the years are for 20 million" exploit to add Bregman, Goldschmidt, Hader, Polanco, and a bunch of others.

Was a fun challenge. I didn't realize how stupid hard that trade mode was. I wasn't able to gain much if any edge from trades.

Here is a challenge back to you:

- win 10 world series in a row, starting as any 2023 team (live start or 2023 start is fine)
- challenge mode
- trade setting all the way to the left (easiest possible in challenge mode, i think it's normal)
- all exploits fair game

This is pretty much the only way I've played since OOTP16, and I'm thousands of hours in across all versions.

I've done it 4 times, including my recent best run which was 17 in a row.

I've gotten a bit lazier in the last couple years and use a fairly stupid exploit: on the league settings -> minor league settings you can change the parent club of any minor league team. So you just assign some triple A team that has a good player to have the parent of LA Dodgers, take the player via roster management, then give the triple A team back. Recently I've taken it a step further and also used the infinite surplus value that this gives to also trade away all good players from the National League to the American League, so that the first 2 rounds of the playoffs are easier.

I used to not use any exploits that felt like cheating, but I was never able to pull it off without using some fairly savage exploits.

Even with all the best players on your roster, it is still tough to win 10 in a row...

Thanks for trying. I ended up doing well with trades, but it took a lot of effort. Almost every day, shopping, checking a team, etc. Year two I mightve made world series if it wasn't for so many injuries (injuries were crazy in the version for me)

Year three I had a 20 game losing streak with a better team than I had the year before (so frustrating as I thought going into season I'd have 100+ wins after how well i did the year before. After the losing streak I played 10 games, went 7-3, but lost interest, didn't want to spend so much time actually playing the games.

As for your challenge... In previous versions, with easy trades I destroyed. I had all of the top players at each position and the best farm system in the league. I won for decades and decades in a row, didn't count, as this was standard for me in baseball games, I just wanted to see crazy number for career stats, and always winning 100+ games every season. If ever I thought I would lose a series in the playoffs, I would jump in, play actually play the game and win. I found ERA while simming in these previous versions was way higher than actually playing. Like I'd go from a 4.0 ERA to a 2.5. Huge difference.

I'm going to give it a try, but unsure how long I'll make it. My injury is healing, and I'm spending less time actually playing.

I don't think it is exploits are cheating. If a great player is on waivers, there is no cheat by picking them up. Some will say its not realistic, but I say its a game. Everyone player games different ways to get joy out of them. What is fun for me, is not for others and vice versa. Like... I have played many baseball games in my day. Not once have I ever picked the best team in the league. I find no interest in winning a championship when I start with the best team. I always choose one of the worst, because I enjoy to turn them into a monster. Others might not enjoy this.

Thanks again for trying!

I'll see if this version I can still destroy like previous versions, with easy trades. I won't do any game other game setting adjustments.

Right, because at that point you're just fighting RNG.

I did the same thing, taking over the A's on August 1 2023. It took me until 2027 to get the third in the ALW, going to 2nd the next two years and barely missing the playoffs. In 30, we came one game away from the WS and got bounced in the WC the next year. We sit now mid-June in 2032 in 4th, currently

Do you not make very many transactions, or build up farm system? I came within 2 games of World Series in year 2 (with injuries to a couple of my best players).

I also traded a great deal, signed phenomenal managers/coaches on team and minors, signed high profile players to trade away for cheaper assets? Year three I went on a terrible losing streak, with a better team than I had in year 2, I got frustrated and stepped away. But got intrigued again reading this response.
