"Un-four-gettable: Pitcher Hits for Cycle"

There was an eye-opening headline in my league news today: "Un-four-gettable: Pitcher Hits for Cycle"

Really? I don't have anybody like "Shotime" in my league and besides, the league is all-DH. Why would BNN refer to a "pitcher" accomplishing the feat?

My excitement quickly ebbed when I opened the article. The man's name is Pitcher.

"We better get the pitcher out of there."

"But boss, he's a home run away from a cycle. He just might do it!"

"Not him, you moron. The guy standing on the mound and holding the ball."

"Wow, I keep getting confused. Let's make up a nickname for Ed. How about 'Batter'? I can hear it now: "Now coming to bat, the first baseman, 'Batter' Pitcher. 'Batter' Pitcher, number 13."

Hey Bru... is it just me or are you like some Baseball Magnet for all these edge-case anomalies the game has?

We've all seen strange stuff in this game (that's a compliment, not a criticism); I just enjoy "bringing it to the fore-um" more than most!

obviously his nickname should be "Belly Itcher"

cause he's not a pitcher!

The Rockies in one of my old sims drafted a guy named Dave Moron. He had the event where he retired to go play football so the headline read something like "Moron chooses football career, passes on baseball".

Could happen. The Mariners used to have a prospect named Scott Pitcher.

Ah, but was he a pitcher? Else, he could have been confused and bollixed up on the team's depth charts.

"The manager has not used this pitcher(/Pitcher) at all; the stats report says zero innings pitched by him during all of spring training. The manager ought to know; this pitcher(/Pitcher) must be awful. Cut him."

Manager, a few days later:

"Say boss, what happened to my new starting third baseman? You know, the guy named Pitcher? He was coming along great and then he just disappeared."

That is funny. And it reminded of one I came across many versions ago where a headline seemed to indicate that a player went AWOL.
