Remember that the play is determined first and the animation is more like a "best guess" of what that play looked like. That is the animation for a pop single to LF that the SS gets.

How many times have I seen the 1B field the ball and just sit there and wait while the batter beats out an infield single.

I understand that. "If it happened the way shown on the replay it should be an error"

I'm not complaining. I watch the animation because it gives me the outcome of the play.
