Bug / Crashing at Canada Cup

I'm new to FHM, having downloaded FHM10 about a week ago. I'm playing through a historical save right now, and I've sunk my teeth into it quite a lot, way too far to quit and restart. I can't get past the date September 7, 1981 in sim, no matter what I do. I've deduced that this is probably an issue with the Canada Cup through other forums, but I don't know how to get rid of this issue. Is there a way to disable the tournament? I'm playing with historical editing and commissioner mode both on.
