NeL v26 VS InteGREATed database
I am curious how the NeL players perform in v26. I used the InteGREATed database for v25 and thought it was fantastic. I read the v25 database is not compatible with v26 and Garlon and LansdowneST are working on an update, but I have been getting the itch to use v26. Are the results for NeL players reasonable or should I wait for the InteGREATed database?
My interest lies in historical-fictional with random debut. I love to see players from different eras in the same lineup. Bringing in NeL just makes it even more fun. I don’t use minors, but I do lock in the 1986 season totals/modifiers, and assign myself to run all teams. Very cool when Mays and Judge are in the same lineup, Austin McHenry plays a full career, or Cool Papa Bell leads off ahead of Mike Schmidt. Thanks! |

The NeL approach in OOTP26 was to take the mod itself and essentially make a base game toggle in 26 to have the game reference the mod stats - in the same way there is a toggle to link a player to his neutralized stats and use those instead of real stats. Coming out of the gate there were some growing pains - esp. with players that overlapped with the AL/NL. It's not perfect but it will scratch your itch until the new version of the mod is ready.
For some perspective, the mod will have a database with not 212 players but ~650. Granted some of those are 1950s Mexican League stars but still, it will be worth the wait. If we can get it out in the weeks ahead, there will be ample time to play test it and many of those players could make it into the base game if OOTPD is amenable to adding more in OOTP27 in the same way they added the 212 players to OOTP26. ... though I will still play using the mod itself next year. Nothing is better than skipping the programming and feeding the stats directly into the engine imho. The time delay for this year is the additional player creation. Once they are all done, it should be easy to update it from year to year. Thanks for your patience and support for the mod!

Waiting impatiently for the 26 NeL mod
It is the Lord's work indeed, jksander, and we are fortunate to be able to enjoy the benefits of the hard work and dedication of LansdowneSt, Garlon, and all the others who have contributed to the NeL mod's development. We owe them our thanks every time we play a game with the mod.
I share mugwump1970's enjoyment of playing the game with diverse groups of players from different eras. But even within one era you can create your own dream team combinations. In one game, set in the 1920s, I had an outfield of Babe Ruth in right, Oscar Charleston in center, and Cool Papa Bell in left. In another, set in the 1950s, I had Willie Mays in right, Mickey Mantle in center, and Minnie Minoso in left. Willie wanted some center field time too, so I told Mickey he'd have to share and they agreed to alternate playing center one season and right the next. When Minnie retired, Roger Maris took his place in the outfield and Hank Aaron had to play 2nd base to get a regular spot in the lineup. And I play with injuries turned off so Mickey can live up to the full potential he had when he came to the Yankees in 1951. I've been playing OOTP since version 9 and I've never enjoyed myself so much or had as much fun as I have when playing with the NeL mod. I'm glad there are others who are enjoying the mod as much as I am. LansdowneSt, if you are reading this, I have an idea I would like to discuss with you. May I send you a private message? |

Figured I'd post this here instead of creating a new thread.
I'm using the Negro League players in my current random debut. Currently wrapping up season 17. I've had one Negro League position player so far that I would consider a possible inductee into my league's Hall of Fame. That player is Oscar Charleston. Charleston was part of the inaugural draft, so he lost some years due to his import age. That being said, he was one of he leagues best players during his career. If he doesn't make it through OOTP votes, I may induct him at some point myself. Charleston is it so far in terms of position players. Buck O'Neil is in my league, but so far he's been nothing more than a bench player. Now when it comes to pitchers, it's a whole different story. Dave Brown and Webster Macdonald have both won 200+ games in my league. Both have multiple Cy Young awards under their belts. They are locks for the Hall of Fame. Jose Munuz has been flat out dominant so far and he hasn't even reached 30 years old. Munuz also has more than one Cy Young award to his name. He's the leagues first dominant power pitcher striking out 260+ batter per season. Nip Winters is showing signs he may be heading for stardom as well. Gentry Jessup is just starting out, but he too has shown signs of being a star. I just find it interesting how well these pitchers are performing. |

That is interesting. Charleston is one of the reasons that I like to play the "what-if" scenarios. Probably not surprising about O'Neil, fantastic ambassador of the game, but likely would have been a pretty average major league player. I wonder why NEL pitchers are having so much success.

Dave Brown doesn't surprise me. He was accused of murder and disappeared at age 27 coming off a 5.9 rWAR season. With RAH off, he's just keep chugging along until aging catches him... Munoz was great. Webster surprises me.

Infer from this what you will but, while I still see plenty of both modded and non-modded NeL pitchers outperforming, and often by some margin, I rarely if ever see a modded position player do so by any great increment and certainly NEVER see it happen with those not using MLEs.
Here's a good visual of the difference I am talking about. 1922 season with the mod in place and all minor league players included, including NeLers. Here's how the non-modded crew is faring: ![]() Very much skewed to the pitchers. It could easily be argued that a number of the pitchers on this list - Force, McCall, Hampton and Britt in particular - could have been included in the mod. The same argument could not be made for the handful of pos players you see. Moreover, certain NeL pitchers have for a long time somewhat incongruously but almost invariably entered any save as superstars. Guys like Deacon Meyers, Hulan Stamps, Red Taylor, Joe Strong, Square Moore, and various others. These guys still come in "hot", although to a much lesser degree since the DB has been tidied up and different rules applied for ratings. Still, even in v26, the game when it comes to historical players does seem to lend itself to SP outperformance much more than for hitters. Just how it seems to work, and I think this holds to a certain degree even with the modded guys. A lot of different elements at play here. We haven't even touched on settings, which play a bigger part than many understand them to. Or luck. In the timeline cited above, Jose Munoz wasn't terrible by any stretch, posting nearly 30 career rWAR and a 101 ERA+. Yet he finished with a record of 112-216! G PS If "Shuck" O'Neil could have hit even 10% as good as he talked, then he'd deserve to be in the HoF. Lans, stop tittering.

Since I'm playing random debut, I'm at the games mercy as to when players arrive. I've clearly received more pitchers so far. Thanks Luckyman for letting me know what you've seen in your leagues. Will keep plugging along. Ashamed to say it, but my knowledge of the Negro Leagues is slim to none, so having these players arrive in my league is a very educational experience. Please know that most of the time I'm just posting for discussion purposes and not in any way am I whining or complaining.

Just wanted to say that I've been loving the InteGREATed mod.
It inspired me to use Eric Chalek's Asian MLE-equivalent file and I've got my own little custom database added onto the NeL mod with Asian players all the way up to 2002 (and counting). Incorporating batters is pretty straightforward, but pitchers do require you to get a little more creative. |

Glad you are enjoying it! I have plans for the Asian ones as well but will have to post it off-forum (after I get to them!)

Real Golden Era Teams
I have been working on OOTP26 with the NeL players. I created a league called the real golden era it includes several NeL teams which I had to put togther myself since OOTP26 doesn't allow to import NeL clubs like MLB ones. Check out my website for the results
