Losing Markus
Losing Markus is going to be a bigger loss than people are thinking. It's been going down since it's sale a few years ago. With things happening this year much to the disgust of some fans, we maybe looking at the beginning of the end

That's what I'm wondering, as well - will there even continue to be an OOTP team, and if so, for how long?

Twenty-seven years is a long time for anyone to do anything ... I've been on these forums off and on for twenty-two of those, and a lot has changed for me in that time. I feel confident that the team he built will be able to keep things going in the right direction, eventually every torch has to be passed ...

If that's naive, fine ... but realistically, we've all gotten alot more out of this game than we had reason to expect.

I could play OOTP 25 for the rest of my life and be happy, but this game is too big to fail.

Oh Good God.
OOTP changes over the years that meant the "end of the game". ![]() Moved to a DIPS model (the death knell in 2004?) OOTP still here 20 years later graphics (lets not waste time listing all of these) MLB license added.. MLB interference will ruin the game. perfect team Going to SI Leaving SI Going to Com2US Having to remove some leagues due to licensing Some users "favorite stat" not in the game yet. Taking ball and going home No women or women's league (with the argument, by some users, women will be in MLB soon anyway, so why not?) more ![]() This is only a partial list of how OOTP was at it's end. Chicken Little is alive and well in 2024 and is not going anywhere in 2025.

Based on my interactions with the rest of the members of the OOTP development team I am extremely confident in its' future.

Can add Com2US releasing MLB Rivals, another MLB licensed game with graphics OOTP can only dream about. Though being F2P is an interesting choice. I don't see the game "dying" anytime soon, but I also unable to figure out Com2US. |

The developers would probably rather not say, but I suspect that Markus has deferred to the team more in recent years, with no loss in quality of the product. In other words, give him credit for foreseeing this day would come, but not until he was comfortable with those running the show day-to-day. That's my impression. And I have confidence in the team to preserve the 95% that we like and tinker responsibly with the other 5% each year, as has been the case since I've been on the bus. I have to chuckle at the melodrama of the whole product suddenly crumbling after 27 years of work. That may be giving Markus too much credit - or rather not enough credit for creating a platform that is both stable and customizable well into the future.

Whenever things happen, the worst case scenario is usually the safest bet. My attitude is that I fully expect OOTP 25 to be the last OOTP, and any OOTP beyond 25 will be a welcome surprise. I'm just some random internet stranger, so for whatever it's worth, I'm placing zero expectations on the rest of the team.

It is kind of a hilarious development recently IMO where people go to the forums of a game and insult it, the developers, and/or the people who post there and then be surprised when people who enjoy the game (and have for years) defend it. These forums have always been a place where constructive criticism is welcomed and encouraged. But "constructive" is a key component. If you just want to bitch there is a very active Reddit community that would be much more useful for that purpose. |

agree with this - except at my age - there's not a whole lot of seasons left anyway.
