Am I doing something wrong w this prospect?
I feel like this happens a lot -- and i'm not sure if it's just the volatility of prospects (which I'm cool with) or if I'm somehow doing something wrong. This is a prospect I acquired at the trade deadline two years ago, and he's done nothing but get worse. Just curious if anyone else has an opinion...

I don't think there is enough information for us to say whether you are doing anything wrong. Can you describe what levels he has been at and how he has performed?
In general, however, it is the nature of baseball that most prospects will not reach their initial expectations. Also, a distinction. You said the player has "done nothing but get worse"...however nearly all of the Current Ratings changes in your screenshot are positive. It is the Potential ratings that have gone down, which goes back to my "initial expectations" comment above. Last edited by Rain King; 06-02-2025 at 03:54 PM. |

My first thought, as Rain King said, was that you could be playing them at the wrong minor league levels.
Or it could be just that they're getting worse. Have they had a notable injury? I suppose it could also be the longer your scout has gotten to know the player the more they realize they were just wrong about them. Or maybe you changed scouts and the new guy has a totally different opinion on the player? We need to keep in mind that most prospects IRL just don't pan out. I think of it more as a bonus when a prospect pans out than as a loss when they don't.

Check their personality ratings!!! I have had my best prospect never develop because of some low personality ratings like "Baseball IQ" and "Work Ethic".

I agree with Rain King. His floor is rising while his ceiling is lowering. It looks as though you are now getting a better picture of who he is as he compares to his peers.
