I'm curious about the feasibility of manually migrating a franchise from Super Mega Baseball

Basically, I have been doing a "real-time" (1 game per day, 27 games per month, 6 months + 7th for postseason) franchise save in Super Mega Baseball 3 & 4 for what will be six years at the end of October. While I enjoy SMB4, EA have abandoned it (and probably the series) and I don't think it's really in a state that I would enjoy for years on end for reasons that aren't relevant here. Due to age though, I have been considering stopping playing all 162 games every season and simply watching or simming them, and I am not a fan at all of how SMB4 handles either.

In addition to the stuff inside of SMB4, I have kept very detailed records of this franchise outside of the game in various spreadsheets. I've calculated stats that SMB4 doesn't natively calculate, given awards, kept track of splits, grand slams, no-hitters/perfect games, streaks, sweeps, etc etc etc.

OOTP is still updated and the sim portion at least seems to still do exactly what it says on the tin, so it's here that I turn. Possibly.

Obviously, I can't just open OOTP and point it to my SMB4 franchise and press a button, this would all have to be done manually.

So my question is this: is it possible to manually recreate this league, including all of the extraneous things that I've kept track in OOTP? And would I be able to do it inside the game itself without having to resort to manually constructing a massive database file? It's not something I'm stringently opposed to, but I'm human and I'd rather not spend all five months of the offseason chicken-pecking in Notepad++.

Based on the info provided I’m relatively sure you could re-create the universe. It sounds like you did a lot with super mega so you aren’t scared of a daunting task. What I don’t think you can do though, and if I’m wrong someone chime here, is re-create the history you already have. Your OOTP game would start on day one of your creation. You wouldn’t be able to import old stats and who won what. Maybe you can role play around it? Like create a website and post all your past awards and treat the OOTP save as modern times or something.

Hmm.

Not being able to import custom histories, stats and backstories is something I already had a hunch wasn't possible, but I don't think it's a dealbreaker.

I plan to expand the league by an additional eight teams (from 24 to 32) in OOTP, so maybe I'll just say the expansion happened by the current league merging with several independent teams to create a bigger league and everyone decided that "archiving" stats, awards and achievements from the original league was the best way to maintain fairness. So basically your idea.

Guess I'll pick this up with the PFD (Alaska, baby) next month and get cracking starting in November. Something tells me that creating 32 teams, their players and stadiums will keep me pretty busy through the winter. Like you said though, I'm not a stranger to doing a lot of work for my nerdy hobby. It took me like a month to recreate all the teams and players from Super Mega Baseball 3 in 4 because there's no import tool between the two games.

Depending on how precise you are going to be with player ratings it may not take that long. I have never played Super Mega Baseball so I do not know how their rating system works. If it is number based like say 1-100, OOTP has a 1-100 setting so that could save you some time. If not, you will definitely have to play around in the editor and really learn how ratings work. Good Luck. Admittedly, I'm a serial world builder so I personally would consider this a fun project.
