Is PT always this demoralizing?
I finally tried out Perfect Team after years of ignoring it and had a blast! It was fun to build a team and open packs and slowly improve over the course of the season. I was enthusiastically joining as many tournaments as possible and doing drafts an often as possible to try and scrape for every last point I could to try and improve my team, I did research to find players who would help by best players' chemistry, and I rose to the top of my first league and eventually won the entire thing! For comparison, I now have a handful of players in the 90 range, and a bunch of gold ones, and a few silver and bronze to help with chemistry.
Now because I won, I've been promoted to a league where every single other player has an entire rotation and lineup of players that are 99 or 100 and there is nothing I can do to compete short of spending hundreds of dollars on points to buy players from the marketplace. No amount of tournaments or drafts will give me enough to improve. And so, I've given up and stopped playing something that I found very fun and engaging for the first week. So my question is, is it always like this? Is this by design to see if I'll shell out four figures for a superpowered team? Is it just bad luck? I really enjoyed finally playing this mode but now I'm just sad. |

Sorry to hear you've stopped playing - the game can definitely be a grind sometimes, I'll readily admit that, but there are still some avenues to getting back into it and keep doing your best.
I'm not sure if you've been watching the Twitch streams on the OOTPDevelopments Twitch or any of our affiliate streamers for free pack drops; that's a good, free source of packs, and can help you out in that department just by watching a stream or two a day! What tournaments were you playing, if I may ask? I'd highly recommend trying Perfect Drafts if you haven't already; I feel like those can be a good place to learn more about the cards that are out there, as well as teambuilding, to try to make a team to win based on the card pools you get each round. You mentioned analyzing the cards quite a bit, so if you're starting to get into that, it may be a good avenue for you to try! When it comes to player evaluation, I will say that I don't personally look at chemistry when it comes down to it - I don't even know how exactly it works. I'd suggest looking at the component ratings that make up a player (particularly HRA and pBABIP, in my opinion) to really get a sense of how good a player is. Something to maybe keep in mind for the future. As far as league play, you probably got Super-Promoted to a higher league based on how you did in your championship season; that's a new thing the game's done to try to prevent tanking in league play to stay at the level they are, and while I'm not sure if there's anything in the cards to refine it for future years (and as always, anything can be refined in this game), I definitely think it's helped quite a bit in the competitive sense. In your case, sometimes rough patches like this happen (I know I've had a couple of rough patches this cycle, believe me), and you'll eventually settle in to a level where you can have fun and be competitive in and keep earning PPs. And, the best part is you don't need to spend money in order to do so! There's live speculation, PDs, Twitch drops that can help build your card collection, get PPs, etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is there are still ways to have fun with the game, and that while you may be going through a rough patch, I bet you'll get the hang of it in the future! I also encourage you to join the OOTP Discord, where there's a lot of conversations about the game as well as many people who will be willing to help you out! http://www.discord.gg/ootp I really hope you reconsider and get back into the game, as you definitely have something going right for you at least with your first league championship!

Appreciate the feedback. Was doing any and every Perfect Draft / Tournament I could to try and scrape together resources. Going from fun and competitive to absolutely impossible to win within a single week is possibly the worst feature I've ever heard, even if I understand the desire to prevent tanking/league manipulation. Maybe they ought to factor in how many leagues have been completed by the team in question into that formula, because doing so well that you're slammed into a brick wall is the absolute opposite of feeling rewarded for success!
![]() Will try to find Twitch things or figure out the Discord if I start playing again, but the "Super-Promotion" punishment is probably enough to turn me off the game for a while. |

You can look up CWhitDCFC on twitch and watch the stream he did yesterday called "impromptu starting a new team stream". Within one HOUR of starting a new team he had two perfects and 24 diamonds on his team and ~100K to spend after that. No real money needed.

yeah: you can't do this early in the game but at this point with the live missions so cheap you can go through. it does require you to sell some of the rewards, and with new players i think the foresight of that is hard. but yeah, the live missions are all very cheap and you should be able to finish those with zero effort and get a lot of resources out of that. appreciate the shout out, bailey!
