BA's and errors
I have seen my batting averages go up after the defense makes an error trying to get the hitter out. If it was an error then the defender should have made the play, and the batting average should go down.

Some of the throwing errors on grounders in OOTP are scored singles and an error on the throw.
So the calculation is correct. However there may be too many singles and errors.. its something I'll take a look at. |

Scott .... Ok them maybe it is a little scoring bug. Yes he advanced to 2nd on the error but also reached first because of the error.
Steve ... It is a 12 team solo fictional league |

I've seen this happen in fictional & historical, simmed and PBP'ed games.
There seem to be two common results when an infielder commits a throwing error. Some throwing errors merely pull the first baseman off base and allow the runner to reach first base. The hitter does not get credit for a hit on this play. Other throwing errors miss the first baseman altogether and allow the runner to reach second. These plays are scored as a single, then error, which does cause the hitter's average to go up as it's scored a hit. I always thought about this second scenario and decided the play at first was close enough to be considered a hit for the batter, but I don't think that's entirely realistic - there should be some throwing errors where the runner reaches 2nd and does NOT get credit for a hit. |

I have seen this many times
Every time I see this, the runner ends up at 2nd base, I think the PBP should say it was scored as a hit and an error
But, I also see this too much, and agree with AJ, that sometimes it should be an error all day (this coming from an ex-Milwaukee County Parks Official Scorer) GB ::back to lurk..well, maybe with OOTP5 I'm not lurking as much, and participating more ::

Agreed... this just happened to me. I had a guy who had a 10-game hitting streak going. Last at-bat he had, the PBP said he reached on a throwing error and then advanced to second. So I figured that was it - he's 0 for 4 - no more hitting streak.
But when I checked the standings after the game, his name was still on the Hitting Streak leaders. I went back and checked - sure enough, it seemed to be scored a hit and error even though PBP said just "reached on error". Should probly be some clarification. Thanks!
