SQlite Database Error?
Hello there,
While I was playing my OOTP 27 franchise mode today, I ran into the following error message: "Error: Unable to open the sqlite database". I messaged the help group on Discord to which someone referred me to a forum from a previous version of the game (OOTP 19) on how to fix this error when encountered (link to this page: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/showpost.php?p=4384242&postcount=4) After following the instructions on this post, I am now getting the following error message "The loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version)" when trying to load back into my save. Now I fear that I lost my save which I have spent 175 hours on, and am asking if anyone can help! Thanks, NIU Nate |

This is likely a case of the save having been corrupted.
The non-ASCII issue is not likely a problem anymore since several version ago. The thing to do here would be to try to restore from the autosave function. You should be able to restore from the autosave function. Instructions on doing that follow: To restore from the automatic backup, do the following: 1) Open the game and on the start screen, click on Settings. 2) Now click on the tab "Troubleshooting". 3) Click "Open folder containing saved games". 4) Now open up the league folder you're wanting to restore. 5) Then select all of the .dat files in the folder and back them up (just in case) by copying them to a temporary folder or creating a zipped file with them 6) Open the folder called "auto-save". 7) In there, select all of the ".dat" files and copy them to the league folder (the parent of the current folder) overwriting all of the ".dat" files in the league folder. Now start the game and load your league.

It's possible the backup is corrupt as well (which is rare but does occasionally happen). Can you zip up your folder with both your .dat files and the auto-save folder and the .dat files there included and post a link to it here? We can take a look and see if there's anything else that can be done.

Hey Lukas,
I get the following message when attempting to upload the ZIP files: "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error. |

I believe this error is popping up because it exceeds the 3 MB limit for zip files, is there any other way where I can trasmit the zip files?

There's an ftp site in my sig, or you can just upload to Dropbox/Google Drive and post a link here. Whatever is easier for you.

Having this exact same issue today. Can't open my league and getting corrupt message after SQlite error while saving in game.
Tried copying autosave files to parent file, still no luck. |

More often than not, an error with the sqlite might be a file error. In that case, a simple reboot might fix it. Alternately you could even copy the entire league folder (ie you could copy YourLeague.lg to YourLeague2.lg, and then try to open YourLeague2 from the load menu).

I tried the FTP in your sign but had issues. Let me know if I should send elsewhere. Sorry to highjack your thread NIU_Nate! I was coming to post about same issue and saw this, figured no purpose in duplicating post. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UqE...usp=drive_link Last edited by Benz0709; 04-15-2026 at 02:17 PM. |

If It helps, this is order of error messages I receive:
1) An error occurred while loading database! Could not load world file 2) A problem occurred while loading the league files. Click OK to save the current files in a folder names "incident" inside your league folder now and to let OOTP try to restore you game to the state of the last previous successful save. Click cancel to return to the previous screen. *I click "OK"* 3) OOTP saved the potentially damaged database files in a folder named "incident" inside your league folder. Click OK to restore the league files, or Cancel to restore the files manually. *I click "OK"* 4) OOTP restored the league files from the auto-save folder. Click OK to try loading your saved game from last valid save. 5) An error occurred while loading the database. Could not load world file 6) A problem occurred while loading the league files. Please start a new game 7) Loading of the database failed. It is either corrup or a save-game from an older version. Then i get sent back to start menu... Hey Team,
I just wanted to check in and see if we had any luck with the files. If possible, I would love to get back into the game over the weekend. Much Appreciated! |

Was just getting to the point of replying. From the files you sent, it does not look like we can restore from those ![]() However, something I noticed is that that auto-save folder and the basic .dat files you sent are exactly the same. Same size, same date saved etc. That really shouldn't be the case, unless I suppose if you already rewrote the basic .dat with the auto-save files, but didn't keep the old ones. Could you maybe zip up and send the whole folder including all sub-folders, so we can just check a little more what else might be there or not?

Looking a little further, looks like there's some good news and bad news.
Good news is, you can probably still play this. It looks like something in your text data got corrupted. You can delete the text_data.dat from the folder and load the game, but it will lose all the text logs and history, unfortunately.

Hey Lukas,
A few follow up questions: 1. Do you still want me to zip the who league file for you to look further into (based on your second most recent reply)? 2. Is there any root cause of why text files would get corrupted? I just want to understand if possible so as to avoid this in the future. 3. When you say text logs, does that mean like my emails, transaction history, GM/decision history etc? |

Many times, this can just be a one-off and once you restore the save, things will be fine. If you're having league files regularly corrupting though, there may be another issue that's causing that though that it would be worth checking out. There are a few things that can cause corruption. This potentially includes unexpected system shutdowns or crashes especially while a league is saving, bad sectors on the hard drive the game is saved to, memory glitches on your computer (especially possible if the league is left open for very long periods of time without the game being shut down or restarted) or interference from other programs, especially disk cleaners or anti-virus programs. Some of what you might do to prevent that from coming up again would be to regularly defrag your hard drive as well as check it for errors, don't leave OOTP open and running with a league loaded overnight or for long periods when you are not actually using the game, make sure to shut your computer off or at least restart it occasionally and also run as few other programs in the background at the same time as OOTP as possible. For programs that need to be running at the same time, like an anti-virus or firewall, it's a good idea to add OOTP to their whitelist and to create an exception for OOTP's directories if you use some sort of automated disk cleaner. For sure, also, having your saves directory linked to One Drive or Dropbox can also cause potential issues, so it's highly recommended to delink these if they are linked. Probably a lot of this, though some of it we also store in the save directory in a bunch of little files as well and that stuff you shouldn't lose. I'm not 100% sure offhand what's stored where.
