Steve, Henry......help ! Can't start 00TP5.....
I've been a fan of the OOTP series since OOTP3 and this is the first time I've experienced operational problems.......
I had great fun last night creating a customised Japanese league and leading Chiba Lotte to mediocrity, but when I tried to start OOTP5 this morning I got a RUNTIME error stating that "this application has requested Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"........ok, nothing unusual there, as this has been reported elsewhere. But now, the message has changed: It now says that there has been an illegal operation caused by an invalid page fault in module DDRAW.DLL at 017f:baad0dfe. I'm a real dummy when it comes to computers but this rang a few bells....DDRAW is something to do with DirectX isn't it? Anyway, I thought I'd try running DXDIAG and lo and behold there was an error there too.........I got a box saying that there had been a problem accessing DDRAW last time and that application would be closed.......... Bugger ! Does this mean I have Direct X probs ? What does it mean guys, and more importantly what do I do ? Should I re-install DirectX 9 ( sorry, forgot to mention I have the lastest DirectX version ) If so, how would I do that ? Do you just re-install over the old one ? I'm a little worried about really messing things up further so please guide me through this carefully !! But boy, I'm missing OOTP today........... Many thanks in advance.......... |

You should type dxdiag at the run command,(I'm not certain about other windows versions but w/ XP there are some directX utilities that you maybe able to run to assist you). My guess is that reinstalling would work but there maybe an option to "repair" or restore.

Good Morning Steve ! Jeez.....what time is it over there ?! I wasn't expecting such a speedy reply.......!
Anyway, I've tried running DXDIAG as a run command but I can't access anything to do with DDRAW.....also, since last posting I've discovered that I can't even access the advanced options of "desktop properties"......... I know this obviously isn't a OOTP problem now, but if I did re-install DirectX, can you simply install it over the current one ? I know some applications you can and some you can't........I guess you can 'cos you can't uninstall DirectX.......but I'm a bit out of my depth with these things........ I don't know how this has happened as I haven't downloaded anything other than OOTP and a few Championship Manager patches recently and everything else has worked fine...... Thanks again....and if you or anyone could give me any advice on re-installing DirectX I'd be very grateful........ |

I just did a search for the topic online and at a brief glance I did not see any issues or problems with reinstalling DirectX. If you feel it is a more serious problem you may want to consult with a local computer technician first.

Thanks again Steve..........the guys at the SIgames forum in the UK like to think of theirs as the most responsive and helpful around, but they trail in the wake of .400softwarestudios........
Ok, well, I might give the re-installation a try as I don't see how it will do any great harm..........and I'll keep my fingers crossed......... None of my diagnostic tools ( Norton Utilities etc ) are reporting any serious problems but we shall see.......... And I'd just won back-to-back games for the first time this season ! Dammit......... |

Everything is ok again ! It was the weirdest thing........somehow DDraw had become disabled..........and now it isn't, but I'm not exactly sure how I enabled it again !!
How can anyone make a living in computers ?!! They drive me nuts............! Anyway, thanks again for your help Steve...........I'm back in virtual Japan now............although I think the Chiba fans wish I wasn't !! |
