Vista and eLicense Control
Since it involves eLicense this may not be the forum for this (if it's not, please let me know where to proceed with this query).
I have one of my OOTP 2006 installs on a Windows Vista Beta 2 computer. It runs just fine, but today I went to unlicense the game so I can put it on a laptop for a weekend trip and discovered that the eLicense Control icon that that should appear in the Windows Control Panel doesn't appear. I can find no other means of unlicensing this copy of the game, nor can I find a file or folder from which I might be able to manually launch the eLicense Control. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated! ---Todd |

You will get a much faster reply at support@elicense.com since they handle these requests.
With Vista all bets might be off... they might not have a workaround yet, but I would definitely email them your name , email address, name of game and ask them if they can help you with Vista OS. Since it is in beta still, they would be able to tell you more about it. Good luck with the Vista eLicense issue. Please post more info as you get it so we can have it for reference!

Thanks for linking the email address. I was running behind to pick up my kids and wasn't having much luck finding an applicable support link at ViaTech's website.
I was able to find the key entry in the Vista registry, but no luck at all finding out if there is an executable launch file for the applet. If/when I find out more I'll post back. ---Todd sportsgamer.blogspot.com Last edited by ubrakto; 07-13-2006 at 07:23 PM. |

For those who may encounter any similar situations, I did hear back from eLicense/ViaTech over the weekend. Here's the deal:
If you create a shortcut icon to the ootp2006 executable file (or modify an existing one), and in the Target field append "-unlicense" to the launch command for the shortcut (don't include the quote and place the text outside the path's quotations in the Target field) it will force the licensing dialog screen to appear when you launch OOTP. From there you can unlicense the game. I tested it this morning and using the -unlicense tag does indeed work. From the tone of the email it sounds like they know the eLicense Control applet does not work with Vista and I would imagine the issue will be addressed by the time Vista ships in January (of 2020). ![]() ---Todd sportsgamer.blogspot.com |
