Damn people. This wasn't even a feature in OOTPX. Here Markus tries to give us a new feature that many of us will enjoy, and half of you complain about it and some even call it "crap." Hell, one guy even says "I am very disappointed." Damn man, he didn't have to give us anything if he didn't want to, but you're "disappointed?" Wow, next time, I wouldn't blame Markus to just forget it when he thinks of a neat new feature to give to us.

EDIT: Ok, maybe not "half of you."

Actually, Andreas coded this feature. But because Andreas has all sorts of other stuff to do as well (FaceGen, HTML, building installers etc.), the first version of BB cards are rather basic. I still like it though, I am sure some people will print them and collect them, which certainly makes their league feel a bit more alive since they have something 'real' to play around with or just look at.

But no worries, if those who are 'disappointed' provide us with valuable feedback, then we will be able to improve the cards in a patch.

Instead of being disappointed, try being positive and think - "Hey, it's a start. This feature can only get better over time."

Like a lot of things in OOTP, they start out bare bones and evolve with the game. Not to worry, this feature will as well.

It is fine not to like a feature, or have it be below expectations, but can't people criticize the game without being childish or insulting to those who made it?

Somebody spent time on something and did the best they could within the amount of time they could put on it. If you don't like a feature, don't use it, make suggestions to make it better.

I have a feeling people get enjoyment just trying to belittle people, kind of sad.

You can modify the card designs to your heart's content.
It automatically generates cards for special events (like All-Star or Hall of Fame selection).
You can keep the cards outside of the game and print them if you like.
You can turn off the whole feature if you don't care about it.

The only thing missing is more stats on the back.

I think that's a pretty good start for a brand new feature.

I'm on the Beta Team and have made a suggestion/request to have a World/League Championship Card also.

I'm sure there will be other ideas for special occasion cards too.

I blame Andreas up front for all the extra ink and cardstock I will have to buy. Now if only I could get the greatest league I ever started off that CD (won't read) then I'd be a printin' away.
2 more days kids. Are we all excited yet.

Suggestions

So, I didn't buy 00TPX, (did buy 9, 8, 7, etc.), but a number of features for 11 piqued my interest, among them the baseball card feature. I am excited about the potential, although like others have already mentioned, disappointed by the current state of the cards. That said, I would like to mention a number of ideas for future improvements to the cards (with some coming from previous posts!)

1) Season by season stats (starting with the current season and going back until the card is "filled up"!)
2) Option to have certain info included on card back: DoB/Age, Height/Weight, Position, College/Draft Pick, Nickname, etc.
3) Option to have cards included in a year "set" that highlight achievements such as Homerun milestones, All-Star appearances, No-Hitters/Perfect Game, etc.
3) Option to include a rookie "set" in addition to beginning of the year rosters

I'm sure more will arise from the creative members of this forum, but I felt like posting these as a beginning since I believe this feature could be really cool for some users of the game (and since it was a decent part of the reason I bought 11 at all!)

Thanks for a great product year after year!

Give it a couple of weeks, everyone. As long as the cards are customizable, modders will probably have a dozen different variations within a week of release. I'm sure there will be plenty of improvements from the OOTP community, let alone what Andreas might code for a subsequent patch.

Yeah, it's a good start, but the stats were what I was hoping for.

I'm not complaining here, I'm merely asking, since the cards aren't going to do what I thought.

I love to print our my entire 25 man roster from time to time to look over their careers. See how their stats compare from year to year, etc.

The only way I can do that now (that I know of), is to print out all 25 BNN pages, and I shortened that to just selecting print out page 2 of everyone's BNN page, as that's the page with the yearly stats, with the totals at the bottom. So I have shaved it from 50-75 pages (all BNN pages are 2-3 pages long, some rarely 4) to just 25 by selecting page two only.

I was hoping the bbcard feature would help me lower that total more.

Since it won't, does anyone have a better way to print off your team's careers in as few pages as possible? I would love to have the players name and bio info, yearly and career stats, and that be it, then another below that, etc. etc. etc. and then it might only take say 10 pages.

Any ideas?

I can't even remember exactly the appeal real baseball cards had to me as a kid and I certainly collected my fair share. Is there the hope that one day these will be doled out based on certain goals you achieve in the game? As a kid I think that was the appeal to me, you tried to collect your favourites or even all of them, but unless you were rich you couldn't just go buy the entire box or print them all out as might be the case here.
I will use this feature because, quite simply, I think they are cool! I won't be printing a Topps box set by no means, however I will chase my wife around the house with my latest AAA stud's card, all the while she's yelling "I don't care, leave me alone" (just to get her goat). I have always loved baseball cards and this is a neat feature to have available.

i would want to be able to manually generate baseball cards, because all of my favorite players aren't superstars.

For online leagues, make it where anyone (NOT just the commish) can generate the cards.

And i don't need all of the stats on the back of the card. i can get them in game. i like having just the current season and career stats on the back of the card. i would like to eventually see all of the stats that are traditionally on the back of baseball cards. (G, AB, R, H 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BA for batters. And W, L, SV, G, IP, H, R, BB, SO, ERA) What i would like to see on the back is the player's ratings; especially his defensive ratings.

i want to be able to capture a particular player, how he looked, who he was playing for and what his ratings were at that the time the baseball card was generate. This helps because players continue to age and their ratings deteriorate. Right now when you look at a hall of famer's profile he has no ratings. There's no way of knowing what type of player he was; especially defensively.

I'm starting to get it, particularly after this:

Yeah, I think it'd be kind of neat to print out a few of my favourite players from when they were still great. This past season I lost by far my favourite player to FA (he wasn't a superstar, but he did put up great numbers considering his ratings) and it would have been nice to have an actual tangible card in my hands of him when he was still in a Warriors jersey, maybe display it on the desk or bookshelf.

So how difficult is it to print out one of these on "cardstock"? Could I probably use my home printer or would I have to go to Kinko's and be embarrassed?

Do these cards come with that waxy gum? Because if they don't this is a useless feature and whoever coded it is a mountebank.

As far as I'm concerned, this little tid-bit is F-ing fantastic. This whole card feature sounds pretty damned good to me. Certainly not "disappointing" or "crap."

I can just imagine for online leagues, team owners saving that stud draft picks rookie card and saving it over his career, then pull it out toward the end of his career, showing off the newly Hall of Famer's rookie card and selling it to another team owner for $50,000.

Never fear. I'm sure that modders will be able to sell you some gum.

Maybe this question should be for Technical Support, but ...

When I print the baseball cards, how do I prevent the gum from getting stuck in the printer?
