Having a couple of issues

I'm coming from an APBA background, and thus far, liking OOTP better as a computer game. Three issues have come up that I have been unable to solve.

1) Setting the playoff roster. Some players I wished to leave off the roster I ended up having to release. This is not really acceptable, but I had no choice if I wanted to win.

2) Switching to commissioner mode. I was not able to do so until I created a new user (me again) and then deleted the old one. Not a huge deal except that I lost a year of experience in my history.

3) This one is infuriating. I attempted to move my DH to a position and insert my pitcher into the lineup. It would not allow me to do so. So, I tried inserting the pitcher into the lineup, but that was also not allowed. I ended up locked up and, just to get out of the screen (there is no undo), I put the reliever I moved the pitcher (whom I could not set to pitcher) to the vacated fielding position that would have been where the DH moved. My thinking was that I would have the pitcher throw one pitch, then move that fielder (the desired pitcher) in to pitch. This was also not allowed. As of right now, I have a tired pitcher on the mound and my closer playing CF in a save situation. Not amused.

I can only address number one.
It sounds like you brought all of your players for Seprember call-ups and some were out of option years when the playoffs started.
That is how it works in MLB.
Options years is an option you can turn off. How is beyond me, I would imagine a quick OOTPXI Manual search will lead you to the right place.

The only thing I know about number two is that there is another way. I have not done it. I think you create a manager accout but they do not get a job. They are then given comissioner authority.
You create a seperate manager account for your team manager.
Again, I have never played in comissioner mode so someone else can give a better answer.

All I have.

Good luck,
TGH

Thanks, TGH. The issue with the roster wasn't options (I was careful about that), some of them had three option years remaining. No matter, it's only one of a couple things I couldn't work around.

I think #3 had to do with the order in which I made the switches, but regardless, a manager has the option to move a position player to pitcher during a game (I recall both Chuck Tanner and Billy Martin doing this in the past).

#1 - I have never run into this issue so I cant really comment other than to say my first thought was about the options as well.

#2 - If you are on your team home page, at the top of the page there is a tab marked "Manager Options". If you click that you should see a check box for "Commissioner Mode" at the bottom of the profile section. You can click this on or off at any time as needed.

Alternatively, you can get to this page in one step from any other page in the game by clicking the "Manager Options" button located on the tool bar at the bottom left corner of the screen.

#3 - At this time, I'm pretty sure it is not possible to do this.

Were you trying to change your roster after the playoffs started? At the end of regulation you should get a message requiring that you reduce your roster to 25. What exactly were the messages you were getting that made you think you had to release your players?

The other answers in this thread are correct.

As noted, you can't do what you were trying to do. Markus may open this option up in a future edition of the game, but it's not there now.

There are two issues that can affect #1.

Options as the OP indicated. If players have options but less than 5 years MLB service they can be assigned, no question. If a player has options but 5 years MLB service, they can refuse assignment. At that point you can do waivers and DFA. Only after that would you have to release them.

Perhaps the OP can confirm the actual sequence of events. BTW I've had to release a veteran or two over the years in the playoffs. It happens.

The other issues have been explained.

I saw that I needed to reduce my roster to 25. I attempted to remove a player out of options from the active and could not, thus, I had to waive/dfa, and that player was claimed. Another player was one I intended not to re-sign, hence the release.

I could swear I had previously put a pitcher into the lineup late in a game so that I could use the DH as a fielder, but perhaps I am mistaken.

As for the other issue, I tried the Manager Options, but the choice for commissioner status was grayed out. No matter, I've moved on, but it was a troublesome process.

I want to be clear, overall I am VERY pleased with this game. I especially enjoy the pitch-by-pitch format. I had some bad luck with a base stealer getting thrown way more than he should have by people he should not have, but it was just that -- luck of the draw. He's 8-8 this season and I'm running him ragged.

A bit odd, but I guess it could happen. Perhaps the game thought it already had a commissioner for some reason. The programming is complicated enough that quirks like that certainly happen. It's always a good thing when people can figure out work-arounds, because they are certainly necessary from time to time.
