Early Season Update May 1st, 2017 W - 12 / L - 12 / GB - .5 ![]() After a stellar spring training that saw the Rockies win 16 of their 22 games the beginning of the season has not been quite as good as they finished with a .500 record in April. The Rockies have performed well at many positions but have not gotten the pitching they expected from SP's Kevin Gausman and Ryan Verdugo going a combined 1-5 in 9 starts with ERA's of 5.32 and 7.07 respectively. The team has also had a poor showing from Catcher Wilin Rosario who is in the final year of his extension he received a few years ago. The Rockies made a couple of interesting moves recently that could hint at him being available this summer as their budget is tight and with LF Carlos Gonzalez bumping his pay to $20,000,000 next season they may no longer be able to retain Rosario after the season. They also made a couple moves of note right after spring training involving players expected to make the roster but had poor showing and were out of minor league options. On April 1st the Rockies made 2 deals, the first sent RP Heath Hembree to the Dodgers. Hembree was acquired by Colorado in a 2014 deal that sent RP Matt Belisle to the Giants but Hembree never could put it together pitching just 7.2 innings in the big leagues with an ERA of over 12 while filling in for injured players. In return the Rockies received 26 year old minor league closer Juan Noriega who is playing in AA Tulsa currently. Also on the 1st the Rockies sent 32 year old RP Eric O'Flaherty who was going to make $1,000,000 this season to the Cincinatti Reds. O'Flaherty spent 2 seasons in Colorado and pitched just over 50 innings with a 4.52 ERA. In return the Rockies received 27 year old minor league 1B Sean Buckley. Buckley is mostly just a depth player at this point but played decently well in AA the last 3 season with the Reds organization hovering around the .260 mark with his average and a .330 OBP and compiling 53 HR over the 3 years. On April 4th the Rockies claimed a 29 year old 1B/C prospect from the Braves waivers. Braeden Schlehuber was once a promising prospect who has just never panned out for the Braves but the Rockies hope he can be coached up at the big league level. In AAA last year before being called up in September he hit .263/.314/.420 with 14 HR and 47 RBI for the Gwinett Braves. If he lives up to his potential he still could turn out to be very good but his work ethic is questionable. The Rockies move to pick up Schlehuber prompted the trade of 1B Ryan Wheeler. Wheeler has been the Rockies bench first baseman the last few years but qualified for arbitration last season and saw an increase in pay. The ever tight wallet of the Rockies made him overpriced with the new talent on the bench. They ended up sending Wheeler to the Los Angeles Angels for 26 year old SP Daniel Corcino in return. Corcino was 9-5 last season for the Angels with a 4.22 ERA and is currently in AAA Colorado Springs. The Rockies now have 2 bench players capable of backing up 1B and the Catcher position as well as C Prospect Stryker Trahan waiting in AAA and hitting .308/.396/.679 with 7 HR and 18 RBI. This is the reason we need to see Rosario step up soon or he may be wearing a new uniform by the all-star break as his $8,000,000 price tag is a little too high for the past 2 years. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - 1B Anthony Rizzo - .276/.359/.529 5 HR 17 RBI MLB Pitcher - SP Drew Pomeranz - 2-0 1.93 ERA 0.93 WHIP AAA Hitter - C Stryker Trahan - .308/.396/.679 7 HR 18 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Wilmer Font - 1-1 3.38 ERA 1.29 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Carl Thomore - .242/.342/.409 1 HR 9 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Benjamin Hughes - 11.0 IP 1.64 ERA 0.64 WHIP |

Heading into June June 1st, 2017 W - 26 / L - 27 / Tied for 1st ![]() The Rockies continued to under perform throughout May although they started the month strong going 8-2 in their first 10 games but had 2 four game losing streaks during the month to bring them back to a final month record of 14-15. There was not a lot of news for the team outside of RP Brandon League going on the 60 day Disable List with shoulder inflammation and is expected to be out for 3 more months. He was obviously effected by the injury as he went from his 2.88 ERA last season to 9.53 this season. To take his spot in the pen the Rockies promoted Chris Withrow who has pitched 16 innings with a 6.75 ERA. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - SS Troy Tulowitzki - .330/.425/.608 6 HR 21 RBI MLB Pitcher - RP Jose Suarez - 21.2 IP 1.66 ERA 0.83 WHIP AAA Hitter - CF Bryan Humphries - .310/.404/.460 1 HR 16 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Bryant Reed - 5-1 2.68 ERA 1.12 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Carl Thomore - .243/.291/.456 6 HR 12 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Juan Noriega - 11.1 IP 0.00 ERA 0.79 WHIP |

2017 First Year Players Draft June 6th, 2017 ![]() Round 1 - The Rockies chose with their first pick in the draft 19 year old SP Willie "Barnyard" Calhoun out of Oakbrook, NY. He is an interesting prospect as he projects as a fairly good pitcher who went 11-0 with a 0.90 ERA in his last season but also played 1B when he wasn't pitching and hit .524/.561/.1029 with 13 HR and 47 RBI. He looks to be more effective as a pitcher but could also project to be a fielder with great power, the only thing keeping him from playing 1B is his batting eye needs some work and his running is very poor. It is possible the Rockies could see how he does in the minors as a pitcher and switch him to 1B if he doesn't pan out. Round 2 - Closer Roman Garcia is 20 years old out Coastal Carolina University. He went 7-1 with a 2.31 ERA last season. He has all the traits the Rockies could want with a high work ethic and good leader ability. He also has shown to be extremely intelligent and chose baseball instead of possibly making his millions in the private business sector. Round 3 - SS Anastasio Cortez is 24 years old out of Wichita State University. He is a great fielder with a mediocre bat. He will need to use his good work ethic in the minors as at his age he won't have long to make an impression and work his way to the bigs. Round 4 - The Rockies chose Catcher Rob Adams with their 4th pick. He is out of William & Mary College in Williamsburg, VA and hit .301/.342/.402 with 6 HR and 58 RBI this season Round 5 - The last pick we will preview was 21 year old SP Carlos Peterson out of Cal-State Fullerton. He was 5-2 with a 3.18 ERA and could develop into a back of rotation starter or a good bullpen arm. |

An All-Star Summer July 1st, 2017 W - 40 / L - 35 / 3 Game Lead [IMG] ![]() The Rockies say goodbye to Rosario It was a good month of June for the Colorado Rockies but also a sad one as they said goodbye to Catcher Wilin Rosario. Rosario came up through the Rockies farm system and had a great couple of years for the Rockies after he got his first big contract. While he was starting to pick it up at the plate it was his play behind the plate that actually earned him an all start selection this summer throwing out nearly 50% of baserunners which is incredible. In all reality though his contract was due to run out after this year and the Rockies would not be able to afford to extend him at his $8,000,000 per year current price. We will go into the details of the trade soon but first looking at the month for the Rockies they compiled a 14-8 record to jump out in front of the San Francisco Giants in the division behind good offensive production and some slightly improved pitching. The Rockies also made another surprise move this month with the details of their roster moves this month. On the 13th of the month the Rockies made 2 trades, the first came as quite a surprise as the Rockies traded star pitcher Ryan Verdugo who was at the beginning of the season ranked as one of the top 20 pitchers in the major leagues but has since fallen out of that due to a rough year. At the time of the trade he was 2-6 with a 6.25 ERA and some experts feel that his low groundball percentage is what really made things hard for him in Colorado. He was traded to the Miami Marlins along with 27 year old LF Kyle Parker who has been a bench player for the Rockies for a couple of years now. In return the Rockies got a good young LF in 24 year old Glenn MacKie. Mackie in 21 games with Miami had hit .318/.388/.591 with 2 HR and 7 RBI. Also coming over in the trade was 24 year old minor league 3B Gioskar Amaya who could provide depth for the Rockies in coming years. He hit .257/.314/.402 with 7 HR and 29 RBI in AAA for Miami this year. Also on the same day was when the Rockies traded Wilin Rosario and 22 year old minor league SP Connor Jones to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jones was a 12th round pick for the Rockies and was 2-4 with a 3.80 in high A Modesto for the Rockies organization. In return the Rockies 24 year old minor league LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya who was the #62 ranked prospect in MLB circles and hit .300/.390/.510 with 5 HR and 14 RBI in 26 games for the Pirates organization. There have been whispers this year around the league that the Rockies may not resign LF Carlos Gonzalez due to his high price combined with his recent injury history as he has spent almost a full 1 1/2 seasons on the DL recently. In combination with these moves we saw one of the Rockies recently acquired top prospects, C Stryker Trahan make his Major League debut. While Trahan is obviously going to take time to adjust as noted by his early .226 average he has shown promise. In the 12 games he has played in he has hit 3 HR and knocked in 14 runs including an 8 RBI game last week in which he hit a 2 run home run as well as a grand slam. As for Ryan Verdugo being traded the Rockies were expected to promote top prospect and #13 overall prospect Bryant Reed who is 10-3 with a 3.53 ERA in AAA but instead they stated they wanted to give him a little bit more time to work on his control. Instead they promoted Wilmer Font who was claimed off waivers in the offseason from the Texas Rangers. Font has started just one game so far giving up 2 runs in 7.1 innings and getting the win. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - 2B Marco Hernandez - .447/.510/.682 2 HR 10 RBI 16 RS MLB Pitcher - RP Jose Suarez - 12.0 IP 0.75 ERA 0.75 WHIP AAA Hitter - C Matt McBride - .316/.349/.520 4 HR 13 RBI AAA Pitcher - RP Seth Willoughby - 12.1 IP 0.73 ERA 0.65 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Carl Thomore - .287/.387/.525 4 HR 18 RBI AA Pitcher - SP Andrew Mitchell - 2-1 1.89 ERA 1.50 WHIP |

Injuries galore threaten to derail season August 1st, 2017 W - 59 / L - 45 / 8 Game Lead ![]() The Rockies were able to finish the month with a 19-10 record thanks to to young pitchers stepping up as a number of injuries struck the Rockies. None are expected to be too lengthy but they are still going to show soon. The Rockies lost 3 of their starting pitchers to injury as Kevin Gausman sprained his ankle putting him out for 2 weeks. Jose Fernandez strained his oblique in a win and is out for 3 more weeks and rookie Bryant Reed got an inflamed shoulder after throwing just 1 pitch in his last game and will be out for 2 weeks, he was filling in for Gausman when he was hurt. On top of the injuries to their pitchers they also lost RF Jorge Soler for 5 weeks to a quadriceps strain as well as new acquisition LF Glenn Mackie for 3 months with a partially torn labrum, his season is likely over. The Rockies promoted 2 pitchers to cover the absences in the rotation, they promoted Daniel Corcino and Bill Moore to the rotation. Corcino has not had his start come yet but Moore lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up 3 runs. The good news though has been SP Wilmer Font who was promoted when Ryan Verdugo was traded to Miami. Font has been absolutely phenomenal going 5-0 with a 0.96 ERA, never giving up more than 1 run in his starts, not bad for a pitcher claimed off waivers and went 1-5 last season with a 5.68 ERA for Texas. Also stepping up in the field for the Rockies since being promoted when Mackie went down with this injury has been another recent acquisition LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya, after Soler was hurt Carlos Gonzalez was moved to RF and Tsuchiya has been starting in left. In 67 plate appearances he has hit .343/.397/.672 with 6 HR and 17 RBI. As we head into the month of August the Rockies will need at least manageable performances from their replacements but the good news is they have an 8 game cushion so it is not dire circumstances quite yet. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - SS Troy Tulowitzki - .394/.464/.743 10 HR 31 RBI MLB Pitcher - SP Wilmer Font - 4-0 0.69 ERA 0.81 WHIP AAA Hitter - CF Brian Humphries - .333/.421/.559 4 HR 18 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Jim Collins - 1-1 4.19 ERA 1.42 WHIP AA Hitter - 3B Michael Benjamin - .262/.342/.383 2 HR 16 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Rafael Aviles - 12.1 IP 2.19 ERA 1.14 WHIP |

They Survived September 1st, 2017 W - 77 / L - 52 / 14 Game Lead ![]() Many thought the Rockies might implode due to the injuries to 3 of their starting pitchers, instead they went 18-7 in August and gained 6 games within their division effectively putting the regular season away. It wasn't a perfect month for them though as 3B Rosell Herrera went down with an injury that put him out for 6 weeks on August 21st. Due to the timing of the injury and length (it would keep him from being eligible for the playoff roster) the Rockies did not put him on the DL instead choosing to rough it with 24 active players instead of 25. The Rockies replacement pitchers performed admirably in the absence of their injured starters. Some might have wondered if trading Ryan Verdugo earlier in the season would hurt them but to give you an idea of how good of a season SP Wilmer Font has had in his place let's look at some stats.
If Wilmer Font had started the season and pitched this well he would have started the All-Star game. Another note on young players filling in. LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya nabbed rookie of the month honors when in 90 at bats he hit .289/.340/.700 with 11 HR and 22 RBI's in the month of August. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - SS Troy Tulowitzki - .320/.358/.610 9 HR 27 RBI MLB Pitcher - SP Drew Pomeranz - 2-1 2.10 ERA 0.86 WHIP AAA Hitter - 2B Taylor Featherston - .291/.365/.488 4 HR 11 RBI AAA Pitcher - SP Rafael Rodriguez - 2-1 2.97 ERA 1.47 WHIP AA Hitter - RF Carl Thomore - .248/.333/.426 2 HR 12 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Matt Flemer - 18.0 IP 2.00 ERA 1.22 WHIP |

Regular Season in Review October 3rd, 2017 Final Record - W - 91 / L - 65 ![]() It was a good year for the Colorado Rockies, they did not get 100 wins like last season or meet the expectation of 101 wins either but they get a pass as at one point this season they had 1 of their original 5 starters due to injuries and trades. Offensively the team was lead by SS Troy Tulowitzki who led the team in HR, RBI and OPS. The Rockies though have 2 key players injured heading to the playoffs, RF Jorge Soler is still out for 2 weeks and C Stryker Trahan is expected to be out 3 weeks so if they get to the World Series he may be able to come back. Let's take a look at the stats for the team's players as we do every year. A new feature though will highlight some stats that we do not normally cover as well as some of the players that were in the chase for league stat leaders.

2017 Divisional Round - Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs The Rockies and Cubs have become very familiar with each other in recent postseasons. In game the Rockies Jose Fernandez got the start and had to pitch out of multiple jams but only gave up 2 earned runs. He left after 5.2 innings and the bullpen came on to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings. On offense got 2 HR's from LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya and 3 RBI's and that was all they really needed.![]() Game 1 - Colorado wins 4-3 Game 2 - Colorado wins 10-9 (10 innings) Game 2 between the 2 clubs was a wild one as the Rockies jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after 3 innings before the Cubs started to get to SP Drew Pomeranz in the 4th scoring 2 runs. RP Chris Withrow took over in the 6th but had a rough outing giving up 4 runs including a 3 run home run in the inning. The teams kept battling after that with the Cubs up 8-6 entering the 9th inning. In the bottom of the 9th the Rockies got a 2 run single from 2B Marco Hernandez which scored 3B Rosell Herrera and PH Glenn Mackie fresh from the DL. Rex Brothers came on to pitch the 10th but gave up a 3-1 solo home run to Matt Szczur giving the cubs a 9-8 lead. In the bottom of the 10th though with 1 out the Rockies got a walk from Jordan Pacheco playing catcher in place of injured Stryker Trahan. RF Carlos Gonzalez followed up with a single. SS Troy Tulowitzki was unable to capitalize as he flew out allow Pacheco to tag up and move to 3rd. Now 2 outs in the inning 3B Rosell Herrera came through hitting a double to deep right center than scored Pacheco and Carlos Gonzalez was called safe on a play at the plate to win the game.Game 3 - Colorado wins 6-5 Rookie SP Bryant Reed had a rough start to his first playoff game as he lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits including 2 home runs. Luckily for the Rockies their bullpen was once again fantastic as they gave up just 1 hit the rest of the way through this game allowing their offense to go to work on Jeff Samarfzija. The Rockies powered their way through the middle innings getting a 2 run HR from 1B Anthony Rizzo in the 4th, a solo HR from 3B Rosell Herrera in the 5th, and a 3 run HR from RF Carlos Gonzalez in the 6th putting them up for good 6-5.The Rockies will face the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS as they edged out the Phillies in 5 games. |

NLCS - Colorado Rockies vs. Atlanta Braves Colorado SP Jose Fernandez got the ball in game 1 of the NLCS and he spun a gem as he pitched 8 innings giving up just 1 run on 6 hits. Meanwhile of offense LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya continued his tear in the postseason he hit his 4th home run and is hitting .588 in 4 games. ![]() Game 1 - Colorado Wins 4-1 Games 2 - Colorado wins 6-5 The Rockies offense got off to a late start in this one as they finally came alive in the 6th inning, down 3-0 they managed to score 4 runs and chase Atlanta SP Michael Wagner from the game. The Braves struck back though with 2 in the bottom of the 6th to retake the lead 6-5. The Rockies would get 2 runs in the top of the 8th inning off of RP Joe Thatcher. Rex Brother pitched a perfect ninth for his 4th save of the preseason.Game 3 - Colorado wins 4-1 Rookie SP Bryant Reed who had a rough outing in his first postseason game turned it around for game 3 as he went 8 innings while giving up 1 run on just 3 hits and striking out 10. He could have gone longer as he only threw 93 pitches but they wanted him to rest for his next game. On offense the Rockies got another home run (#5) from Yasuzaka Tsuchiya this time a 2 run bomb.Game 4 - Colorado wins 7-6 Game 4 was an exciting one but also a rough one for the Rockies, they came away with the win thanks to a 5 run 6th inning including a 3 run HR from 1B Anthony Rizzo. The downside for the Rockies was SP Wilmer Font, he gave up 4 runs in 4.2 innings before leaving the game with an injury that will force him to miss the World Series. The Rockies though are headed to their 3rd straight World Series where they will face the Detroit Tigers who were able to come back from a 3 games to 1 deficit in the ALCS to defeat the Yankees 4 games to 3. |

2017 World Series - Colorado Rockies vs. Detroit Tigers Game 1 of the World Series saw the Rockies explode against SP Michael Pineda as they chased him after just 1.1 innings. In the bottom of the first the Rockies loaded the bases for 1B Anthony Rizzo who hit a sacrifice fly to score Jose Soto. C Stryker Trahan back from the DL was unable to hit a fly deep enough to score another run but RF Carlos Gonzalez had his back as he hit a 3 run home run to give the Rockies an early 4-0 lead. The Rockies up 6-0 scored 6 more in the bottom of the 5th including a 444 foot grand slam from LF Yasukazu Tsuchiya and 1B Anthony Rizzo followed up with a bomb of his own. The Rockies made it look easy in game 1.![]() Game 1 - Colorado wins 14-4 Game 2 - Colorado wins 10-5 Game 2 was another offensive show at home for the Rockies, as they scored 4 in the bottom of the 2nd to go up 5-0. The Tigers were able to score 1 in the 4th and 3 in the 6th to make 5-4 but the Rockies scored each inning in the 6th, 7th, and 8th to put the game away.Game 3 - Colorado wins 3-2 After an offensive show of 24 runs in 2 games at home the series moved to Detroit where game 3 was a pitching duel. Rookie pitcher Bryant Reed got the better of Francisco Liriano as he gave up 1 run less giving up 2 runs in 7 innings. The Rockies won this game putting them up 3 games to zero and on the verge of another world series title.Game 4 - Detroit wins 4-2 Game 4 was another pitcher's duel early as neither team could get on the board till the 6th when the Rockies got a 2 run Home Run from Stryker Trahan. The Tigers though got to Jose Fernandez in the 7th when with one out they got a walk followed by 3 singles and a sac fly to score 3 in the inning. The Tigers who survived elimination in the ALCS survived elimination to force a game 5.Game 5 - Detroit wins 7-5 The Rockies got off to a good start in game 5 going up 3-0 after 3 innings. A triple and a sac fly in the 4th by Tigers CF Austin Meadows scored 1 to make it 3-1. The Rockies were able to add on 2 in the 6th inning but the Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the inning scoring 5 including a grand slam from Alex Avila. One more run in the 7th gave them a 7-5 lead and the bullpen put the game away.Game 6 - Colorado wins 9-5 Rookie Bryant Reed continued to pitch well in the postseason as he gave up 1 earned and 2 unearned runs in 5.2 innings. The Rockies struck early before handing it over to their bullpen. After 6 the Rockies were up 9-2. 1B Anthony Rizzo had a big game as he was 2-4 with 5 RBI's including a 5th inning Grand Slam. The win in game 6 gave the Rockies their 3rd World Series title heading into 2018 we will see what decisions they have to make this offseason. |

Mid-Offseason Update January 1st, 2018 ![]() The biggest news of the offseason for the Rockies was the decision to not resign OF Carlos Gonzalez. In the end Gonzalez signed with the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers. We know the Rockies were strongly leaning towards resigning Gonzalez until Major League Baseball came out with a rule change that really effected the decision. The commissioner's office announced on November 1st that teams will now only be able to carry 24 players on their active roster meaning 1 less player available to teams and with a stable of good young outfielder's the Rockies decided to go with youth and use the money saved to extend other players. Extensions - The Rockies extended multiple players this season instead of going through arbitration.
Arbitration
Free Agents
The Rockies also completed one trade that sent 3B Wilmer Flores to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for RP Robert Carson. Last season for the Cardinal Carson pitched 110 innings with a 2.85 ERA. Last edited by bombboy85; 09-09-2013 at 07:38 PM. |

Season Preview April 1st, 2018 Spring Record - W - 17 / L - 5 It was a fantastic spring for the Rockies and in the pitching department they had a number of decisions to make and as always we saw a couple of players leave the team due to disappointing springs and no more minor league options. Let's take a look at the moves made followed by our predicting starting lineups.
The big move came after spring training had concluded as the Rockies traded SP Wilmer Font, 23 year old minor league 3B Ron White and 26 year old minor league SP John Simms to the Atlanta Braves for 23 year old minor league SP Evan Anderson. Anderson was voted the #34 prospect in all of baseball this season and was 12-9 with a 3.62 ERA in AA last season and will start in AAA this year. Starting lineups C - Stryker Trahan 1B - Anthony Rizzo 2B - Marco Hernandez SS - Troy Tulowitzki 3B - Rosell Herrera LF - Yasukazu Tsuchiya CF - Jose Soto (on DL for 1 more week) RF - Jorge Soler DH (in AL parks) - Glenn Mackie Bench 1B/C Braeden Schlehuber IF Jordan Pacheco OF Glenn Mackie OF Max White Rotation RHP Jose Fernandez LHP Drew Pomeranz RHP Bryant Reed LHP Hirokazu Araki RHP Kevin Gausman Bullpen LHP Hugh Stephens (till Soto comes off DL) LHP Robert Carson RHP Chris Withrow RHP Wu-sheng Mar LHP Thomas Keeling LHP Joe Ortiz RHP Jose Suarez LHP Rex Brothers Consensus Season Predictions = 94-63 |

A Good first month despite key injuries May 1st, 2018 W - 18 / L - 7 / .5 Game Lead ![]() Stryker Trahan wins batter of the month for NL It was overall a good month for the Rockies but as the article's title says a couple of key injuries took place in the first week of the season. SS Troy Tulowitzki hit the DL 4 days into the season with shoulder tendinitis and was out for 4 weeks but should be back in 2 days. As well CF Jose Soto played just 4 games after coming back from the DL just to go back on it for 5 weeks with a strained oblique. The Rockies starting pitch has been pretty good to start the season as well as the back end of the bullpen. The middle relievers though have had some issues so far but the Rockies are hoping the rust will shake off soon. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - C Stryker Trahan - .400/.484/.775 8 HR 20 RBI MLB Pitcher - RP Joe Ortiz - 10.0 IP 1.80 ERA 1.40 WHIP AAA Hitter - CF Marcos Derkes - .296/.378/.398 2 HR 13 RBI AAA Pitcher - RP Yakamochi Ishida - 11.2 IP 3.09 ERA 0.86 WHIP AA Hitter - LF Cody Bellinger - .271/.375/.375 1 HR 4 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Javier Palacios - 11.2 IP 1.54 ERA 1.11 WHIP |

NL West tie after May June 1st, 2018 W - 33 / L - 21 / Tied with Dodgers ![]() May was not as good a month for the Rockies, they still finished 1 game over .500 with a 15-14 record. The Rockies did get SS Troy Tulowitzki and Jose Soto back from injury thankfully but also by the end of the month made a few small moves on their roster the improve performance. RF Jorge Soler lost his starting outfield job to LF Glenn Mackie. Soler has played in 54 games and is hitting just .179/.259/.557 with 4 HR and 16 RBI. Meanwhile Glenn Mackie, who still qualifies as a rookie is having an absolutely sensational start to the season as he is hitting .270/.341/.613 with a Major league leading 21 HR and 44 RBI on the season. The Rockies also placed RP Jose Suarez on the 15 day DL and he is expected to miss 4 weeks Shoulder Tendinitis. He was pitching extremely well this season pitching 18.1 innings and had a 1.47 ERA. RP Robert Carson was sent down to AAA for some work as his ERA was close to 9 and in his place Yakmochi Ishida was brought up after the Rockies tested him out in AAA as he was an international free agent this offseason. He has pitched just 3.2 innings so far but has yet to allow a base runner. Top Team Performances MLB Hitter - 2B Marco Hernandez - .356/.451/.538 4 HR 19 RBI MLB Pitcher - RP Thomas Keeling - 15.0 IP 1.20 ERA 0.73 WHIP AAA Hitter - 1B Ben Paulsen - .266/.314/.495 6 HR 12 RBI AAA Pitcher - RP Seth Willoughby - 14.1 IP 2.51 ERA 0.98 WHIP AA Hitter - 1B Bill Decker - .248/.369/.594 9 HR 21 RBI AA Pitcher - RP Octavio Jimenez - 17.1 IP 2.60 ERA 1.10 WHIP |

2018 First Year Players Draft June 6th, 2018 Round 1 - The Colorado Rockies first round pick could turn out to be a steal at the end of the 1st round as they chose 20 year old CF Rick Clark from Georgia Tech University. Clark is an extremely fast outfielder who can play all the outfield positions with a cannon of an arm. He project to fill out still and become a power hitting left fielder most likely. This season in 39 games he hit .291/.421/.639 with 14 HR and 40 RBI. He also had 38 stolen bases and looks to have a good eye as he had more walks then strikeouts. Round 2 - The Rockies second pick of the day was 19 year old SP Pay Kubitza. This was an interesting pick in the second round as the kid may have been picked for his intangibles. He is not a bad pitcher but his pitches don't have a whole lot of movement on them but he is known to have a very high work ethic and pitched well this season going 11-0 with a 0.62 ERA and an incredible 244 strikeouts to 25 walks. Round 3 - 20 year old RP Rick Walker out of Cal State-Fullerton was the Rockies 3rd pick. He surprisingly fell to the 3rd round where the Rockies stole him from everyone else. He may have fallen due to a mediocre season with a 3.21 ERA. If he works hard and develops he could develop into a great setup man. Round 4 - The Rockies used their 4th round pick on 18 year old CF Bob Miller out of St. Joseph High School in New Jersey. Miller is another versatile outfielder with good speed. In 22 games this season he hit .474/.536/.856 with 6 HR 34 RBI and an impressive 30 Stolen Bases. The kid plays the game hard and works just as hard. Round 5 - The final pick we will preview was 18 year old 3B Bob Tiefenthaler from Maryland. This was strictly an intangibles pick as he may be lucky to make it to the majors but the Rockies hope to have drafted a diamond in the rough. The one things he has going for him is all of his intangibles whether it be leadership, intelligence, work ethic were off the charts. |
