Joe Zdeb 1977

Back when they used to have big benches, made 154 outfield appearances for the Royals - 78 of them as a defensive replacement.

The real focus here Merkle, is the subtle work that famed comedic duo "Bob and Ray" did to get into the background of Joe's shot...

John Yandle

One of the odder fates for an obscure Topps upload. Stanford's John Yandle got to Padre camp in 1979 but never the majors, nor did he have much success in the minors. But nearly three decades later he resurfaced as Barry Bonds' personal batting practice pitcher. So popular among the Giants that he outlasted Bonds, and eventually started going to camp with the team in Arizona each March.

John Yandle

My friend D. Kuiper confirms the above referenced Mr. Yandle is still throwing BP for the Giants (and is the only guy he knows who had rotator cuff surgery in order to come back and give up more homers). First did it for the Giants in 1985.

Yandle circa 2012.

1971 Brewers Non-roster Invitees

Since I've assembled the following list by doing newspaper research, there is no guarantee that it is complete. Simply found these names by keying in on "non-roster" during the months before the 1971 season began. To my knowledge, there was no single list one could find to inform us of all the Brewer non-roster invitees.

Rick Auerbach, SS
Larry Bearnarth, P
Bruce Brubaker, P
Bob Coluccio, 2B
Roric Harrison, P
Andy Kosco, OF
Fred Reahm, P
Jim Slayton, P

Frank Dupee 1901
Dupee's major league debut occurred on August 24, 1901, when he was the starting pitcher for the Chicago White Stockings in Baltimore. He walked the first three batters in the game and then was pulled by Manager Clark Griffith in favor of Jimmy Callahan. All three runners scored, and Dupee was sent back to the minor leagues without getting another chance with the White Stockings. In the spring of 1902 (when this picture was published), he trained with the New York Giants, but sustained an arm injury and did not make the team. He pitched in the minors for another thirteen years, but his major league Earned Run Average remained at infinity.

Here are the 1972 Triplets.

These minor league team photo requests are actually better suited for the Minor League Baseball Players thread.

Harry Hardy 1905

He made his last major league appearance exactly one year later for the same team. He was a left-handed pitcher with a major league record of 1-4 in 8 games, including 5 starts. He had showed some promise in 1905, but in his second season with Washington he allowed 35 hits and walked 12 batters in just 20 innings.
Here is another Harry Hardy option. This photo was used in both the 1906 Providence Grays team composite and the 1907 Baltimore Orioles team composite.

The first (batting cage) image is currently available from autographsink. The second, as best I can recall, is an old UncleMaxie image.

Buzz Clarkson 1952 UIN Braves

The first image came from the BilkoAthleticClub blog (I won't link there because it pops up virus warnings on my browser), the second was shared by John over on Baseball-Birthdays several years ago and the third was recently sold by sportsage.sales.
