You have told me that you were only interested in the faces of the players. These have both been done by Baseball Birthdays. They are available for sale at his Ebay print store but there are preview images of George Grantham (Cubs) and Bobby Reeves (Senators) that should work for gaming purposes.
I have colorized the submitted New York Giants Fred Merkle image. Two versions Brown and Blue.
