Nobody here was prepared for a bear; they were eradicated in the wild in Germany in the 1830s. Of course nobody sought advice in Italy, either.

I'd like to keep Rojas, though. It's not the manager's fault that the team has fallen apart in the way it has.

Amed Rosario walks! For the first time in a quarter season's worth of plate appearances! Miracles do happen!

Ah, after deGrom will have tossed a complete game 3-hitter in Game 7 of the World Series for the W, we will fondly look back at this walk issued by Trevor Rogers, which turned EVERYTHING AROUND and made the Mets finally winners!

He turned it into a run, too, I see.

And maybe if another outbreak happens, instead of playing 5,000 more doubleheaders and ruin Lugo and Jake they'd just cancel the rest, or if they happen too close to the end of the "season" they will just forget it.
Called it! Welcome back Toms River Tom, good luck as the DH defensive replacement!

I guess KJ wasn't available?

Oh and don't forget the old broken down C to back up the other old broken down C, both subject to team options for next year!

It's nice that the Yankees were "in town" today so that I could catch the Tom Seaver tribute on the YES telecast. Well done.

This Mets game is a donnybrook! Who's going to win this thing?

EDIT: Answer, Mets! This is not a bad team you got here, if this game is any indication. They never gave up.

I have seen well enough of Billy Hamilton though. Mets would have won an inning sooner and without anybody catching pneumonia in the monsoon for an additional 30 minutes...

This has never been true before, but it is now. *I* can play baseball just as well as THAT GUY. Hey, Wilpons! (forcefully whistles) I'll play for HALF of what you pay THAT GUY!

Mellow game, at least with a consoling end.

I need more tissues.

That was the guy who tried to steal third with no outs in the ninth inning, down by one run. Even my wife gasped at that one - apparently she does listen to me talking to myself about baseball - for here is someone who appears so sophisticated and cool to be wearing a sliding glove on one hand, and then proceeds to violate one of the basic rules of base running!

To make matters worse, he's half-smiling as he goes back to the dugout, as if saying "Oh well. What the hell. Heh." He's lucky that J.D. Davis saved his bacon.

Such a typical Mets signing. A one-dimensional player who lost his only dimension.

But at least Tom's River's Todd Frazier had three hits so everybody had something else to talk about...

Good news, he's gone! Did the Giants say "no backsies", is he still within the warranty period?

If I'm team management, and I'm not happy with his .045 (1 for 22) batting average, and I see him making a base running error like that in a tight ballgame, AND I see him get up smiling about it, that's when I pull the trigger, yes.

Looking at the box score from last night, sometimes I'm just glad the Mets play when I'm asleep... What a **** show. (shakes head)

I can't wait to see Jeff leaving the office with a box full of belongings... but I'm still surprised how many Metsians have apparently never been burned by thinking "things can't possibly get worse". If he cans/replaces Bro-die quickly with someone cromulent I'll start to believe.
