I hesitate to say that the Mets look pretty good so far, catastrophic injuries and a minor 'rona outbreak or not, because they have mostly played the Gnats and Snakes so far, two solid bets for last-place finishes this year...

Well we've certainly see them choke horribly against the dregs so it's reassuring to see them beat who they should beat...

I really like Marte so far, he's taken to RF and is an uncomfortable AB for the bad guys.

Pitching can't possibly stay this effective, but the lineup looks good, fingers crossed that DeGrom is back before the end of June.

Got some pretty bad Mike Baxter vibes when Jeff McNeil just thumped into the wall without looking out there in left...

Pete this year:

as 1B: 7 G, .160, 0 HR, 3 RBI
as DH: 3 G, .429, 3 HR, 11 RBI

(looks skywards and glares at the baseball gods) So that's how you bums want to make me embrace the fake position?? (shakes fist)

Oh man he’d better learn to hit at first base because you need DH to justify Robinson Cano’s contract!

As is evident from the current 2nd inning against the Giants, his range is best measured and printed in inches.

Ugh!

Conforto should have taken up the Mets' qualifying offer, that would have paid him $18m or so for being injured all year...

Quote:
Conforto underwent shoulder surgery last week and will miss the entire 2022 season, according to a report by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, who cites Conforto's agent, Scott Boras.

per MLB.com
Poor Conforto. Always liked the guy, sorta.

Meanwhile MLB.tv was kind enough for the "hide spoilers" feature to glitch out and show me they listlessly lost to the Snakes last night, so I save myself four hours of dreadful nothingness... yay, MLB.tv!

Sigh.

I wonder if the arm suddenly gave out or if he just figured "well, still no job so might as well do this now". On Mets boards last year I was suggesting they not even bother tendering him and use the $20M or whatever towards someone else... because I thought he'd be crazy to turn it down. And here we are.

Gary and Ron kept talking about how "weird" that game was but I thought it was mostly yawntacular. Ron and Gary were quite sure they had never seen TWO players be called out for being hit by batted balls in the same game

Which shoulder is it actually? The same one he busted while taking a swing in a game in ... 2017?

Because back then, Rey Ramirez' Field Hospital of Knobbly Scars was not exactly famous for actually fixing players. Or even caring. Did they ever actually fix that shoulder properly back then?

The stories say right shoulder and I thought that's the one he goofed up back then. That one had been damaged playing football, and IIRC at the time he wasn't surprised it had slipped out of joint or whatever. So I think it's not a coincidence, but I haven't looked at old articles to figure it out.

Wikipedia says 2017 was the left shoulder.

Quote:
Conforto started the 2017 season as the Mets fourth outfielder but worked his way to a starting job. He was selected to the 2017 MLB All-Star Game in Miami after hitting .285/.405/.548 through the first half.[34] On August 24, his suffered a season-ending injury during a swing after he dislocated his left shoulder and tore his posterior capsule.[35]

Unbelievable game, 2 runs on the bullpen had me all ready for the usual Metsy ending, then... boom! It's always enjoyable to see the Best Fans In Baseball (tm) headed for the exits in the 8th inning and *gasp* booing the home side!

Also, I hope Dom's little adventure moves him up the DH depth chart or something, they can't keep running Cano out there every night regardless of results. Right?

Also, I was watching the stream of the game, so when the $10M man came in to pitch I noticed there was still a lot of video left to run... I assumed he was going to blow it but I guess it was showing the postgame show time too. Anyway, nice to see him show up to finish a big comeback.

Next time some punk hits Pete in the head with a fastball, I will personally swim across the pond and tear that skunk's ******* useless arm out of its socket.

I say that as calmly as Pete was when he sprang up in 0.2 milliseconds after getting beaned.

It was an 83mph pitch that got away and it was the first time Whitley's ever hit a batter.

Now if he had put one in Marte's hip...

I just checked and you are correct. I took my cue from Gary Cohen, who said fastball in the clipped-together highlights video I watched this morning.

(marks an E for Gary Cohen)

Regardless, we've seen enough Metsies beaned already this year. And sometimes it only takes one hit for irreversible brain damage.

What's with Marte...!? Who else is injured...!?

Do I even dare watch the series finale in three hours?

This game has the worst of EVERYTHING.

- Matzie getting romped
- Mets getting even more romped
- Mets being stupid on the bases
- J.D. Davis having his leg torn off by a 3-2 fastball
- Who the **** is Yoan Lopez after all??

Also, don't throw at the ******* head, for ***** sake!!
